News and Events for the week of October 7

Good Monday Morning:

It is here! This Saturday, October 12 from 10am to 2pm, we will host the LACC Community Resource Fair. There will be important information and events for our community: free health information and health screenings, information on employment opportunities, non-profit and community services, and presentations about LACC programs and classes. K-Earth 101 will be on campus providing music. I cannot wait to see our community come out and celebrate our 90th with us.

LACCD Board of Trustees Meeting Last Wednesday 10/2

Last Wednesday, LACC hosted the LACCD Board of Trustees (BOT) for the District’s monthly board meeting. The Board honored LACC for 90 years of excellence in education and celebrated with resolution for LACC and everyone enjoyed cake in celebration, too. UCLA was also honored by the BOT for the celebration of their centennial and the history of UCLA with LACC.

Last Wednesday, before the BOT meeting, LACCD Chancellor Dr. Francisco Rodriguez held a “Chat with the Chancellor.” Dr. Rodriguez updated faculty, staff and students on the new technology coming, the budget outlook, and bond building projects.

STEAM Fair for High School Students

On Friday, 10/4, we had a very successful event sponsored by the Umoja program. Over 3,000 students from all over Southern California were brought to LACC to attend. The energy in the quad and around the campus was electrifying! LACC is out there showing our young people what we are all about.

The newly resurfaced track will be finished and open by our big event this Saturday, October 12. The organization who had it designed and installed is calling it the BETRUEx track. It is beautiful. If you go to the 3rd floor of the Student Union, you can see how great it looks.
