The stage at the KCAT festival

LACC headed to Mesa, Arizona last week to compete for the Irene Ryan Audition Competition as well as mounting their show The Government Inspector. This was the stage for the Irene Ryan competitions, nominees and their partners sat in the audience, awaiting their turn to present themselves for the judges. Two groups went up 2 hours after arriving in Mesa by bus, the others, myself included, competed the next day. For the first round of the Competition, the nominee does a 2 minute scene and a one minute monologue. Then come the semifinals, if one passes forward, which includes the two minute scene and an additional three minute scene. If one is lucky enough to go on to finals, being 18 out of the 300 groups that competed, you do all three combined. LACC Theatre Academy had 2 finalist groups, which is a rare occasion, some schools didn't even have anyone make it to semifinals. Our teams left their hearts on the stage but ultimately, acting and art is so subjective that it is difficult to choose a real winner. We represented LACC to the best of our abilities, making our name as one of the founding members of KCACTF even stronger.
