On Sunday, December 2, 2018, three Los Angeles City College (LACC) students were presented with awards at the LA Press Club’s 11th annual National Arts & Entertainment Awards at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

Collegian Times photographer and reporter Anwar Torres received a first place award for Best Arts or Entertainment photo for “Chuck the Condor Takes Flight,” photojournalist Liam Hayes also was honored with a first place award for Best Commentary/Critique for “Hip Hop Artist Makes History,” and culture reporter William Benjamin Torres received a third place award for Best Arts or Entertainment Profile for “Urban Hoofer Still Stomping.”

“We are extremely proud of our journalism students,” said Dr. Mary Gallagher, President, Los Angeles City College. “To compete and win in the same category as USC and Cal State campuses says so much about our journalism program, faculty and students.”

This year’s awards also honored Carol Burnett with the Legend Award for Life Achievement and George Pennacchio for the Luminary Award for Career Achievement. The late Jonathan Gold received a posthumous Impact Award for Journalism and Michael Connelly won the Distinguished Storyteller Award.
