News and Events for the week of August 16

Good Monday Morning,

I hope you all enjoyed a nice weekend. We begin this week gearing up for the fall semester. Our staff is back in full force this week to help our students get situated with classes and services. Our enrollment for fall is 90% of last year and we are at 87% of Fall 2019. We remain at the top in the District in enrollment. The deans continue to work with the department chairs on classes to add and some that need to be moved from on campus to online. Thank you to everyone who attended our “picnic” last Thursday that we moved to campus. It was good to see so many of you with your families and back on campus. Hopefully, by this time next year this will all be behind us!

LACC Fresh Success Program

We are fully launching our new Fresh Success program. A flyer went out to all of you and we would like you to share the flyer with all of your students. This program provides multiple services for students: food, textbooks, transportation, devices, Wi-Fi, emergency funds, employment, housing referrals, tutoring, and mental health. It includes all services that a student would need to be successful at LACC. Students can fill out the application here

We are very excited to have our students engaged with this new Fresh Success program. Our new Student Services Specialist of Basic Needs is Lupe Martinez. She just started with us last week and has already been hard at work in helping our students. If students need assistance with completing forms they can contact Lupe Martinez at Our VP of Economic & Social Mobility Innovation Marcy Drummond and LACC Foundation Director of Special Projects & Academic Support Daren Lynne are working closely with Lupe to ensure we help as many students as possible. This is a great way that we leveraged our HEERF dollars with other sources of State and Federal funding to finally have enough resources to help several thousand students. Let’s get our students the help they need as soon as possible.

Beat the Rush Week

It is that time of year! Our Beat the Rush Week begins next week, Monday, August 23, and Welcome Week begins Monday, August 30. Extended hours in Student Services offices will be Monday through Thursday, 8am to 7pm, Friday 8am to 4:30pm and Saturdays August 28, September 4, and September 11 from 9am to 1pm. Please remind your students that they can enroll for fall classes now.

Reminders for Visiting Campus

Please remember to check in daily through the LACC SAFE check in app when you come to campus.

The face coverings policy orders everyone, regardless of their vaccination status, to wear a facial covering or mask while indoors. The face covering policy is already in effect.

The vaccination policy requires all District employees and students to present proof that they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or to undergo regular testing for COVID-19 infection and produce proof of negative COVID-19 results. Though this policy is not operational yet, it could be fully operational within about two months. There is more information to come on the implementation of this policy as it develops.

Town Halls

I am restarting regular Town Halls during the upcoming semester. We have a lot going on with COVID-19 still and I want to be sure to get information out to you regularly. It also gives us a chance to stay connected. I will have scheduled the first one for Tuesday, August 31 at 1:00 for faculty and staff and 2:00 for students.
