News and Events for the week of November 4

Good Monday Morning:

This week I will be gone Monday and Tuesday for a Student Success conference in Washington, D.C. Dr. Lancaster is Acting President in my absence.

Since I was going to Washington, D.C. anyway, I was able to lengthen my trip and attend the journalism students conference to see them win first place in two top categories: Friday and Saturday for the Collegian Times Magazine; and a third place Best in Show for the Collegian Times Magazine and fifth place for the Collegian Newspaper on Sunday. It was fabulous to see eleven of our students who entered the competition travel to D.C. and not only attend a great conference, but experience our nation’s capital. It made my trip so much better!

Last week we held a Town Hall meeting where VP Lancaster, VP Reeves, Director of College Facilities Harrington, Manager of College Information Systems Chanda and I provided updates to a packed house on several important items: a possible Veterans Housing project; our bond projects, including: DaVinci, Cesar Chavez, the Theater, the Student Union Cafeteria, landscape, storm water & utilities, schedule maintenance, bond IT projects, enrollment and budget. Thank you to everyone who attended, presented and participated. Last week we also held Theater and Student Union Cafeteria Building User Group (BUG) meetings.

Time is going by so quickly… it is already November. Please remember, next Monday the campus will be closed to honor Veteran’s Day.
