News and Events for the week of September 8

Good Wednesday Morning,

I am a day late on getting this to you because I took yesterday and today off for a little respite.

Thank you to everyone who pitched in last week to help our students during Welcome Week. I hope everyone had a restful day off on Monday. We do not have another holiday until November. On the enrollment front, we are at enrollment of 93% of fall 2019, which is good work. We have lost a little enrollment, that is okay. To be above 90% at this point is a good place. Thank you again for your great work to keep our students going!

New Board Rules

Last week the LACCD Board of Trustees approved an updated Board Rule mandating vaccinations for all employees and for all students in order to be in any building throughout the LACCD. This will go into effect on Monday, October 18, 2021, which gives everyone time to get fully vaccinated. All employees will need to have a baseline COVID test before October 18. Testing will be available beginning next week. We expect to have all of the processes determined by the end of this week. I will be having a Town Hall next Wednesday at 12:45 for faculty and staff and at 3:00 for students. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Founder’s Day Celebration

This Friday, September 10, we will celebrate Founder’s Day, which is actually September 9; we will also have a special recognition of the 20th anniversary of 9/11. We will begin the program at 10:30 with speakers and activities and we will conclude at 2:00 with an ice cream social for everyone. It will be in the Main Quad. We sent a flyer last week and another will go out today.

City Cares Network: Student Assistance Program

We recently launched a new program for students who need any assistance to complete one application and they will get connected to whatever they need. It is called City Cares Network. We will launch our new Fresh Success program this week. If you have students that still do not have textbooks or devices, please have them fill out the application so they can get what they need to be successful. Please share this link with students: https://forms.office.com/r/PEek8i1rgE.

Sanitizer Dispensers and Mask Mandates on Campus

We have installed over 100 of the 500 dispensers with sanitize wipes in classrooms that are currently being used. Once we complete the classrooms being used, we will install them in all other public areas. Then we will go back and install them in classrooms that are not being used this term. Air purifiers for large areas have been installed and we have begun to install air purifiers in small areas.

We will also post more signage regarding our mask mandates throughout the campus and we will check if we are hiring additional cadets to deploy as monitors in buildings to remind people of proper mask wearing. If students are interested in becoming cadets, they can visit http://www.lacitycollege.edu/Campus-Life/Campus-Safety/Sheriffs-Office/Cadet-Program

Please remember to fill out the LACC Safe App before coming to campus each morning.

Parking Permits

We still have parking permits from the last distribution in 2020, so if you do not have a permit, you can get one at the sheriff’s office.

Welcome Center and Student Hotlines

If your students need any assistance, send them to the Welcome Center or have them email us on our hotline for students: hotline-students@lacitycollege.edu. If faculty need help, here is the faculty hotline email address: hotline-faculty@lacitycollege.edu. If staff need assistance, here is the staff hotline: hotline-staff@lacitycollege.edu.

We are in full swing of our fall semester. Please let us know if you need anything.

BELIEVE. ACHIEVE. SUCCEED. Keep looking forward – this pandemic is temporary.

Stay well. Get vaccinated.
