Jimmy Cheesman

Jimmy CheesmanMr. Cheesman is a Los Angeles based guitarist, composer and educator. As a free lance guitarist and session player, he has played and recorded many styles of music including jazz, salsa, blues, country, rock, pop, and folk. He also performs on seven string guitar, bass, krar, and mandolin.  His performances include work as a sideman, music director, and band leader that include performances with Richard Carpenter, Ron Eschete, Kevin Tulius (LA Jazz Quartet), Matt Baldoni (Mindy Abair), and Paul Kreibich (Ray Charles).

He received a Masters of Music in Studio/Jazz Guitar Performance from University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Music from California State University Long Beach. He has studied with many great musicians including Joe Diorio, Steve Trovato, Frank Potenza, Jody Fisher, John Prince, Shelly Berg and Ron Eschete.  He recently returned from Ethiopia where he studied krar and indigenous music.

Professor Cheesman has been teaching in the college setting for over 10 years. He has experience teaching Popular Guitar, Classical Guitar, Flamenco Guitar, Jazz Appreciation, Guitar Ensemble, Music Appreciation,  Music Fundamentals and Applied Lessons at Santa Monica College, Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles Trade Tech College, and Hope International University.
