He teaches courses in music business, music technology, and jazz performance, as well as applied bass lessons. Professor Light’s approach to music education emphasizes the development of real-world skills which will empower students to work in, and adapt to the ever-changing music industry.

Known for his versatility on both the electric bass and acoustic upright bass, Professor Light has logged thousands of live performances and recording sessions with artists as diverse as Jason Alexander, Bleu, Das Klown, Brad Ellis, The English Beat, Peter Erskine, The Fenians, Gregg Field, Free Flight, Mike Garson, Debbie Gibson, Joel Grey, Michael “Miguel” Happoldt, Hed P.E., The Janks, Rich Little, Jack Maness, Andrea Marcovicci, Ron McCurdy, Roy McCurdy, Bob Mintzer, Matthew Morrison, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Ikey Owens, Alan Pasqua, The Record Company, J.R. In addition to his career as a bassist, Light is a songwriter, producer, and self-proclaimed “guerilla engineer.” Having cut his teeth on analog portastudios and digital audio workstations since their inception, Light has become an expert at both desktop music production and obtaining professional results with a minimal setup. Out of his home studio, Light recently co-composed and produced two tracks for FOX’s The Bachelor, and produced an EP and 6 singles by L.A. indie rock favorites, The Janks. He is well-versed in both Apple Logic X Pro and Avid Pro Tools.

Professor Light received his Bachelor of Music with a double major in Jazz Studies and Classical Performance from the University of Miami and Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California. He additionally studied audio recording at Long Beach City College and music at Humboldt State University. Light was previously an adjunct faculty member at Cypress College and has been guest lecturer at USC. He is a proud artist endorsee of G&L Musical Instruments, Gallien Krueger Amplification, and Reunion Blues gig bags.
