Welcome to the LACC Kinesiology, Health, and Dance Department

The faculty and staff of the LACC Kinesiology, Health, and Dance (formerly Physical Education) Department are excited about beginning a new era of health and fitness, from our brand new state-of-the-art Kinesiology building. We teach Kinesiology and Health classes out of the Kinesiology building.

The former Women’s Physical Education building has been renovated and is the home of our Dance Program and other Kinesiology classes.

Remember, taking a dance class will fulfill your Kinesiology requirement for graduation!

Ki-ne-si-o-lo-gy (Webster's Dictionary) The Study of the mechanics and anatomy of human movement and their roles in promoting health and reducing disease.

Kinesiology is the academic discipline which involves the study of physical activity and its impact on health, society, and quality of life.

The Kinesiology department is student centered in its approach. The department strives to educate and inspire our students to understand the importance of physical activity during the lifespan. Faculty and students work together to improve the quality of life for everyone.

Careers in Kinesiology include Sports Medicine, Coaching, Teaching, Wellness, Personal Training, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Biomechanics, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Ergonomics, Corporate Fitness, Sports Management, Athletic Administration, Sports Broadcasting, Exercise Physiology, Sports Psychology and Sports Officiating.

    Announcing the new Online Fitness Specialist/Personal Trainer Certificate of Achievement Program!

    The LACC Department of Kinesiology has partnered with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to offer a 20 unit, Online Fitness Specialist/Personal Trainer Program. This Online program prepares students to become ACE Certified Personal Trainers, ready to work in the fitness industry. Course work includes application based personal training skills, exercise testing, exercise program design prescription, behavior change planning and students will virtually train clients before graduation!

    The LACC Department of Kinesiology has partnered with Functional Movement Systems (FMS) to offer Kin Maj 217 - Movement Screening and Analysis for Fitness Training Professionals which will allow students learn the knowledge, skills, and abilities to become Functional Movement Screen Certified (FMS L1) on campus. Students will learn and identify common musculoskeletal dysfunctions and pathologies. Students will explore the impact of movement dysfunction on the muscular, skeletal, and myofascial system and design and implement corrective exercise strategies to improve overall functional movement.     Los Angeles City College Personal Training Program Overview

    Welcome to Los Angeles City College's department of Kinesiology online Personal Training Program overview the online personal training program at Los Angeles City Colleges partnered with the American Council on Exercise to prepare you for their certified personal trainer examination all of the program courses are delivered virtually via zoom in canvas and include:

    health 11 principles of healthful living

    health 12 safety education and first aid

    management 13 small business entrepreneurship

    kinesiology 250 weight training skills

    kinesiology 331 cross training lab

    kinesiology major 117 personal trainer certification preparation

    kinesiology 285 directed study and personal training

    Plus four additional kinesiology activity classes of your choice for a total number of units equaling 20.

    Upon achieving those 20 units you will graduate from los angeles city college with a certificate of achievement in personal training so what will you learn virtually you'll prepare for aces cpt national exam you'll cover personal training scope of practice and personal training best business practices client report building motivational interviewing goal-based exercise prescription and coaching strategies client assessment protocols including manual body fat manual blood pressure movement screening and posture analysis plus a whole lot more and prior to leaving the program you will have spent an entire semester virtually personal training an assigned client.
