"Pieces of a Dream"
was the theme for the February 24th Black History Month Program,
which featured LACC students -- Dancers Kimiko McCarthy and Jessica
Russell; Actors John Christopher, Constance Strickland, Deondray
Randolph, Deisha Hill, Robert Fisher, Ashioa Taylor, Kevin Chambers,
Derrick Oshana, Laura Bustamonte and Danyele King. Guests Kurt
Lykes and Clarence Allen provided musical entertainment and LACCD
Board Member Angela J. Reddock (top left) was our guest speaker. As
usual, the free soul food was a hit!
"It
was exciting to see the program unfold and the after-program feast
take place," Dr. Thelma Day, African American Heritage Committee
President said.
"It
was obvious by the standing room only crowd that the word went
forth. The tenor of the group was enjoyable. The food line was
continuous for 2 ½ hours and there was plenty of food for all!" Day
added.
"I'd like to expresss my gratitude to everyone who contributed to
the success of the annual Black History Month Celebration! We
appreciate your continued support of all of our efforts. "

LACC Cub Roundup.... |
|
| |
 |
In Men's
Basketball...
In a surprise turn of events the LACC Men's basketball
team was upset by Mt San Jacinto College in the first round of
the playoffs, 97- 84. The Cubs who had played so well in the
second half of the season were simply unable to sustain the
level of play Cub fans have come to know and appreciate this
season
Congratulations, anyway, Cubs on a great season!
The Cubs finished the season 7-1 in the SCC and 22-9
overall -
winning
the South Coast Conference title!
They ranked #16 in the state's final top 20 teams.

Women's Basketball
The
story was similar in the LACC Women's basketball program. The
surprise team of the '08-'09 season also exited the playoffs
unexpectedly early. Congratulations to the lady Cubs, who finished
the season with a surprising 27-5 record. Cypress College, whom the
lady Cubs had earlier defeated, sent LACC home disappointed as they
rallied from behind to win in the first round of the state playoffs
69-65. |
