THEATRE ACADEMY
CLASSES
The Los Angeles Theatre Academy at Los Angeles City College has firmly
established itself as one of the best known and highly respected professional
theatre training institutions in the United States.
Since being established in 1929, the Academy has been dedicated to developing
the skills, crafts and attitudes of students to prepare them for careers in the
professional theatre.
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING FOR THE ACTOR
The training that the Los Angeles Theatre Academy students receive is
stimulating, broadening, exacting and intense. A limited number of openings are
available each Fall and Spring Semester to those acting students who are highly
motivated, aggressive, exceptionally talented, and responsible. An acting
student admitted into the Academy is signifying complete dedication to study,
work and performance so that the standard of excellence of the Theatre Academy
is continually maintained.
Acceptance into the competitive, highly selective program is by audition and
interview only. Specific information concerning entrance requirements is
available in the Theatre Production Office (Theatre Building - Room 208). Please
note that any actor interested in pursuing training at the Los Angeles Theatre
Academy must exhibit competence in spoken English. Those actors with pronounced
dialects and regional accents who are accepted into the Academy will be required
to spend extra time over the course of their training in the Speech Lab so that
faculty understanding or articulation does not become a hindrance.
