Graduation and Professional Requirements
Dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) are trained in food and nutrition and are an integral part of the health-care and foodservice management teams. DTRs have met the following criteria to earn the DTR credential:
- Complete at least a two year associate's degree.
- Complete the LACC Dietetic Technician Program which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312-899-0040 Web site: http://www.eatright.org, including 450 hours of supervised practice experience in various community programs, health-care, and foodservice facilities.
- Upon completion of the Dietetic Technician A.S. degree, pass a Family and Consumer Studies mock DTR exam with a score of at least 80% and submit a notebook outlining how the 31 D.T. competencies have been completed. A verification statement will then be awarded. A verification statement is required to sit for the D.T. Registration Exam administered by The Commision on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association.
- Pass a national, written examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). For more information regarding the examination refer to the CDR's website at www.cdrnet.org.
- Complete continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration.
