Graduation and Professional Requirements dietetic technician as degree

Dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) are trained in food and nutrition and are an integral part of the health-care and foodservice management teams. DTRs have met the following criteria to earn the DTR credential:

  • Complete at least a two year associate's degree.
  • Complete the LACC Dietetic Technician Program which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 800-877-1600 ext. 5400 Web site: http://www.eatright.org, including 474 hours of supervised practice experience in various community programs, health-care, and foodservice facilities.
  • Upon successful completion of the Dietetic Technician program courses, the student is required to turn in a competency notebook demonstrating how each of the Foundation/Knowledge and Competencies were fulfilled.  Once the notebook has been approved, the student may take the Child and Family Studies/Dietetics Department Mock DT Exam as many times as necessary until a score of 80% is earned.  At this time a verification statement will be given.  This allows the student to sit for the Dietetic Technician Registration Exam administered by The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).  For more information regarding the examination refer to the CDR's website at www.cdrnet.org.
  • Complete continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration.
