We Are Building a New Music Department: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity

Renovations have begun at LACC’s Music Department facilities in Clausen Hall. The $13 million construction budget—part of the bond program which has funded recent renovations and the construction of new buildings on campus—allows for upgraded systems, seismic upgrades, and renovated classrooms and practice rooms. Features include a new 150-seat lecture hall, expanded 190-seat recital hall, electronic music labs, additional practice rooms, new recording studios, improved acoustics in all rooms, and a new music library, reading room and listening lab.

The Music Department will fix and replace existing instruments, including its vast collection of strings, winds, brass, percussion, organs and harpsichords. The Department also plans to purchase two new stage concert grand pianos and several new pianos for practice rooms and classrooms. The state-of-the-art electronic music labs will have a full complement of Mac and PC computers with industry standard music recording hardware and software. The Music Department’s ongoing fundraising campaign—which has already raised nearly $150,000—will allow the Department to increase and fully realize the scope of the project.

"We are soliciting donations from alumni, faculty and our community to help us realize our vision," says Music Department Chair Daniel Wanner. "Our goal is to stimulate creativity and inspire learning by providing a welcoming, modern and industry-current environment."

"The community can participate in the creation of our new Music Department," he adds. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime renovation opportunity."

Additional donations will allow us to increase the scope of the project and fully realize our vision, including:

  • New 150-seat lecture hall
  • Expanded 200-seat recital hall
  • State-of-the-art electronic studios
  • New music library, reading room and listening labS
