Community First Aid and Safety, The American National Red Cross. On reserve in the library.

Objective
The goal of this course is to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to call for help, to help keep someone alive, to reduce pain, and to minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced emergency medical help arrives.

This course prepares you to take the Red Cross written exams and skills tests for:
*Adult CPR *Infant CPR * Child CPR *First Aid Basics

Red Cross Certification
To be certified, the Red Cross requires that for EACH component you must:

  • Attend ALL class sessions and participate in ALL class activities
  • Demonstrate competency in EACH skill taught and be able to perform EACH skill correctly without guidance
  • Score at least 80% on the written exam

The Red Cross has a $8 fee/person for issuing you a certification card(s). Towards the end of the course, I will collect the money and deliver it to the Red Cross office. The Red Cross takes approximately 4-6 weeks to process your card(s).

If you pass all written exams and skills tests you will earn the Community First Aid and Safety card which is valid for 3 years.

College Credit
To earn 1 unit you must:

  • Be absent for no more than 4 hours of class time
  • Earn a grade of 70% on each written exam
  • Demonstrate competency on each skill

No excused absences and no make-up classes. Attendance is taken very seriously.Be on time.

No late exams given.
