Prerequisites

  • Swim freestyle, face in the water, using side-breathing
  • Swim in deep water with no fear
  • Swim two laps w/o stopping

Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course students should be able to:

  • List the benefits of swimming
  • Swim faster and farther
  • Effectively use a pace clock and training equipment
  • Understand swimming terminology and notations
  • Design a swimming workout
  • Demonstrate significant improvement in freestyle technique

Grading

70%  Attendance & Participation  
15%   Mid-Term Exam – written   
15%   Final Exam - contains written and swimming components

*No extra credit & no late exams given.

Attendance Policy

  • 7:00-7:15 = warm-up swimming.
  • Get in pool after 7:10 = half credit
  • 7:15 = instruction begins.
  • Get in pool after 7:25 a.m. = no credit
  • Leave class early = half credit
  • No credit earned if you cannot swim. This includes women on their menstrual cycle.
  • No excused absences.
  • Maximum of 2 make-up classes in the other LACC lap swim class. See me to receive a make-up form before attending the other lap class.

Clothing Policy

  • For women, athletic one-piece suit is required. No bikinis.
  • Goggles required.
  • Bring your own towel.
  • Swim caps for long hair are required.
  • If you own a waterproof watch, wear it to class.

Rainy Days – We may swim. Call and listen for instructions.

Pool has Locker Rooms with showers. Women: your locker is only for use DURING CLASS. Don’t leave items in your lockers after class, because other students have the same combination. Men: bring your own lock. You can keep locker for entire semester.
Do not leave valuables in your lockers!

  • LACC policy says no children allowed in the classrooms (pool area).
  • No visitors (friends, family) may remain in the pool area during class.
  • No foul language.
