Laval University, whose experience in teaching French goes as far back as 1937, is situated in beautiful Quebec City at the crossroads of the French-speaking global community. It offers the student the best of both worlds: European charm and North American efficiency.

The emphasis at the Ecole des langues vivantes is on quality teaching with focus on authenticity. Modern teaching methods prepare the student for internationally recognized tests such as the Oral Proficiency Interview-Certificate of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) or the “Diplome d’etudes en langue francaise (DELF)” In class, stress is placed on real communicative situations, thus encouraging the use of French outside the classroom.

The academic aspect of the program is complemented by a team of monitors who plan a variety of socio-cultural activities to help students meet Francophones and learn about Quebec culture. Every effort is made to put students in contact with Francophones: conversations partners, volunteer work, university credited on the job practical training sessions (autumn and winter semesters). Furthermore, the Ecole des langues vivantes helps those students who wish to find accommodations with Francophones.

Studying French in Quebec offers the student total immersion in a medium-sized city that is notable as much for its safety as for the warmth of its people.

Learning French at the Ecole des langues vivantes and living in Quebec City means mixing business with pleasure.
