LACC STEM Conference planners to visit ELAC Senior Day STEM program

Friday, May 9, 10:00am-1:30pm

The East LA College (ELAC) STEM program has invited us to visit their Senior Day, in which they showcase their programs and activities to senior high school students. Professor Bhakta from the LACC Physics & Engineering Department and I plan to attend along with the student members of the committee that is planning the First Annual STEM Academic Research Conference for the fall. We will be considering how we can adapt what ELAC is doing for our own students at LACC. Any STEM Academy member may participate on the committee or simply tag along and hang out with us for the morning. Funding is available for transportation to and from the event. (RSVP suggested but not required.)

Transport options:
1. Meet downtown at Union Station in front of the Subway Sandwich shop. Free breakfast will be available for anyone who shows up between 10:00am and 10:15am. We will head to the Gold Line at 10:30am and take it to the last stop east (Atlantic Station), then walk 3/4 mile to the school. The event is at the Performing & Fine Arts Complex on the southeast side of campus. If you're late and miss us, follow these maps and meet us there:

2. Alternatively, you can meet us at ELAC and take off whenever you need to. If you would like to do this, please email me your cell phone number so we can find you.
We will leave ELAC around 12:00pm-12:30pm to head back to LACC for the workshop.
