|Checking In With The Cubs|
Story posted on: 2/12/08
Baseball has officially arrived and we’ll share more specifics on the Cubs this season in forthcoming editions. The Cubs open this week with a 1-6 record.
Last week, LA City dropped a 9-5 decision to state powerhouse Saddleback College on Tues., Feb. 5, on their home field at Griffith Park.
However, the Cubs rebounded two days later in a convincing 5-3 win over visiting Cerro Coso College on Thurs., Feb. 7. The following day found the Cubs traveling to Glendora and Citrus College where they fell 8-6.
The Cubs and the Citrus Owls were scoreless going into the third inning before LA City answered with three runs in the top of the 3rd. Citrus, however, countered with five runs in the bottom of the 3rd.
The Cubs nearly caught up to Citrus in the top of the 5th after a three run inning brought them to within one run, 7-6. Citrus then called upon their ace relief pitcher, Chris Freedman, who pitched 2-1/3 innings and gave up only one Cub hit while surrendering no runs.
