The Cubs ended the 2008 season in disappointment yet optimism was high for the direction of Cub baseball and the successful groundwork that has been laid for 2009.
LA City dropped a close decision, 7-6, at Mt. San Antonio College last Tuesday (April 29). Sophomore Christian Martinez (Los Angeles HS) pitched a near-impenetrable eight innings before the Mounties scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning for a come-from-behind victory.
The Cubs finished the regular season with a home-and-home series against East Los Angeles College.
LA City dropped a road game (May 1) to the Huskies, 12-8. Cub catcher Jerry Rodriguez (Fairfax HS) was “all-star” throughout the game while going 5-for-5 at bat. This included a home run, a double, three singles, and three RBI’s.
LA City’s season finale at home in Griffith Park’s Pote Field (May 2) also favored East LA, 13-7. The Cubs 2008 season record was 8-32 and 3-21 in the South Coast Conference.
