Cubs Capture Two More Wins

December 5, 2007

LA City 88 – San Bernardino Valley 80 (OT)
Nov. 28

San Bernardino Valley played their best game of the year in taking the Cubs into overtime but fell short of an upset last Wednesday in The Gym.

The Cubs trailed 39-32 at halftime but a spirited second half defense and better offensive execution by LA City left the scored tied, 68-68, at the end of regulation play. A quick hitter jump shot by sophomore All-Conference returnee guard Eric Nelson (6-2, Hamilton HS) to open the OT started the surge as LA City outscored San Bernardino 20-12 during the five minute overtime.

Nelson finished with 14 points and four rebounds. Freshman point guard Branden Fisher led all scorers with 23 points while passing for six assists.

Forward Diego Belizario (So., 6-8) recorded a “double-double” with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman guard Scott Sterling added 16 points.

LA City 73 – Long Beach City College 51
Nov. 30

In a contest between the 2007 South Coast Conference Divisional champions, the Cubs prevailed and, in fact, dominated, from start-to-finish.

Long Beach trailed 38-21 at halftime and witnessed their hopes quickly fade as LA City increased its lead to 49-27 with 16 minutes remaining in the game.

Cub contributors were many and evenly distributed with Fisher leading Cub scorers with 11 points alongside six assists. Nelson added 10 points and five assists. Sophomore forward Maurice Walters (6-3, Woodland Hills HS) offered another solid performance with seven points and nine rebounds. The Cubs outrebounded LBCC, 53-30. LA City’s record improved to 8-2 overall.
