Wed. Jan. 9

The Los Angeles City College Lady Cubs (3-13) struggled in the first half against El Camino and failed to recover in the second half.

“City” trailed 34-18 at half time and despite an early effort to mount a comeback, El Camino overpowered the Lady Cubs with superior height and speed to score 39 second half points.

Luisa Bermudez (Hollywood HS) and Antwanda Calvin (Locke HS) led the Lady Cubs with eight points apiece. Calvin also collected eight boards.

Point guard Roxanna Rodriguez (Hoover HS) added seven points. LA City’s leading scorer, Latrice Klyce (Leuzinger HS), was held to six points.

LA City 55 v. LA Harbor College 58
Fri. Jan. 11

Disappointment and frustration best describe the Lady Cubs thoughts after losing to LA Harbor.

A less than competitive first half haunted LA City with numerous missed lay-ups and other open shots. The Lady Cubs somehow found their way back into contention in the second half despite falling behind by as many as 18 points.

With less than one minute remaining, LA City closed the gap to within three points. A couple of missed free throws proved to be stumbling block for “City” but even with 3.3-seconds remaining, the Lady Cubs had an opportunity to take a last-ditch shot if they could get the ball from the backcourt to the three-point arc. Unfortunately, time expired before a potential shot attempt to tie the game could be taken.

Klyce led LACC scorer’s with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Marsha Haywood scored a season high 15 points along with four rebounds and four assists. Bermudez added nine points. Calvin grabbed nine rebounds.
