|Lady Cubs Split Two Games|
Dec. 12, 2007
The Lady Cubs pulled off a split in two road contests played last week.
LA City 75 – Victor Valley 41
The game started favoring the Lady Cubs and stayed that way the entire 40 minutes. LA City jumped to a 10-2 lead and essentially coasted from that point. Stellar three-point shooting (6-13) combined with 17 steals took Victor Valley out of their game. Freshman guard Latrice Klyce (Leuzinger HS) led the LACC assault with 22 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
Fellow frosh Roxanna Rodriguez (Hoover HS) played her finest game of the season behind 6-for-6 shooting from the field including 3-for-3 behind the three-point arc and a game total 18 points. Freshman Luisa Bermudez (Hollywood HS) added 17 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field.
LA City 57 – Oxnard 64
Oxnard was prepared for the Lady Cubs but still trailed 30-23 at half time. A second half burst behind midcourt extended pressure defense and 10-for-15 at the free throw line led to a 41-to-27 scoring margin and a come-from-behind victory for Oxnard.
Klyce was sensational in defeat with a “double-double” of 24 points and 14 rebounds. Rodriguez broke loose for 11 points but the remainder of the Lady Cubs were stifled by Oxnard’s pressure which forced LA City into 30 turnovers. A favorable home court officiating crew also gave Oxnard an advantage at the free throw in sending Oxnard to the line 24 times versus 12 times for the Lady Cubs.
