|Lady Cubs Look Strong In Bay Area Road Trip|
Oct. 2, 2007
The Lady Cubs traveled to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on Thur., Sept. 27, and ran one of their best meets against the highest caliber teams they may face before the South Coast Conference Championships in late October. The entries were composed of 16 teams from throughout California and many of the surrounding western states
LA City finished 9th place overall with 165 female competitors registered for the event. All Lady Cub runners also posted career personal best times that clearly suggested the team – as a whole – is capable of earning a bid to the California community college Cross Country Championships in November.
Veronica Alaniz led all Lady Cub runners with a strong 11th place finish in a career best time of 20:10 around the 5K Golden Gate circuit. Alaniz has recorded four consecutive top-20 finishes this season in four meets including a position high third place at the Riverside City College Invitational.
Rosa Altomstone was next in line for LA City at 22:31 and 52nd place. Adelina Lopez picked up her pace on the year with a 58th place showing at 22:41.
Other Lady Cubs finishers included Izamar Serrano (64th, 22:55) and Natalie Aguilar (79th, 23:56).
“It was a great race to watch and observe how hard they are trying and how much they are improving,” said head coach Sylvia Mosqueda. “I am very proud of all on the team especially Natalie [Aguilar]. She has improved by four minutes and that is exactly what I told her we need of her to say we can earn a spot in the State meet. The team’s overall improvement since we first started training this summer has been significant. All the other girls took two minutes off of their times except for Veronica [Alaniz] who has improved by over one minute.”
