Runners Faced Tough Times At Santa Barbara Invitational

Oct. 17, 2007

Cool, coastal conditions and high spirits weren’t enough to push the Lady Cubs into the top echelon of teams at last Saturday’s Santa Barbara Invitational.

LA City runners were collectively spaced wide apart in the final results albeit Veronica Alaniz was the proverbial “Cub leader” with an impressive 17th place finish in a time of 20:57 around the 3-Mile seaside circuit. This was Alaniz’s fifth consecutive top-20 finish this season in five meets including a season best third-place showing at the season opening Riverside City College Invitational.

LA City finished 11th place overall in the 13-team field with 131 female competitors registered for the event. Glendale College was the meet winner while placing four of their runners among the top-five finishers. Glendale’s Tove Berg took medalist honors with a time of 18:34.Rosa Altomstone was 69th overall (23:29) and the second LACC runner to finish. Adelina Lopez was close behind at 23:32 and 70th place.

Other Lady Cubs finishers included Izamar Serrano (94th, 25:17) and Natalie Aguilar (110th, 27:09).
