Getting Ready For Fall 2007

(Aug. 30, 2007) - -As the 2006 women’s volleyball season concluded last November, it marked the beginning of a new era for LA City volleyball. The experiment proved to be a success as LA City was introduced to an exciting and vibrant style, solid competition, and a coaching staff dedicated to make a mark in college volleyball in Los Angeles.

With Year One a recent memory, Head Coach Levik Abramians returns for his second season with the challenge of continuing to develop the foundation of last year’s success into a new season that could potentially take the Lady Cubs to the next level. It won’t be easy but a little experience and three key returnees offer hope for a good start.

“I believe we’ll upset a few people and surprise even more,” said Abramians. “We did well in a pre-season scrimmage against experienced and talented teams such as Chaffey, Rio Hondo, and Mt. SAC. Besides playing well, we also got to know each other better as people and competitors.

“I truly believe our defensive results will be much better than last year because we are scrappy as well as athletic,” added Abramians. “We tend to be ready for the unexpected.

“Offensively, we appear to have several hitters that will really help our scoring. We’re also more experienced as a team with three starting sophomores returning and a red-shirt sophomore. We lost a lot of close games last year but our experience factor should give us better results this time around.”

The Lady Cubs open at home on Fri., Sept. 28, at 7:30 pm against LA Trade Tech College.
