LA City Trounces LA Trade Tech In Season Home Opener

Oct. 2, 2007

The Lady Cubs were clearly prepared and hungry for victory in powering past LA Trade Tech 29-31, 30-22, 30-25, and 30-23 in their season home opener in The Gym on Fri., Sept. 28. The Lady Cubs record moved to 1-3 overall. All three losses were against teams that won their conferences last year and competed in the State post-season play-offs.

“City” dropped the first game after taking a commanding 25-16 lead. Trade Tech outscored LA City 15-5 during their late game surge.

The final three games were dominated by the Lady Cubs with never a moment in any game when Trade Tech appeared capable of coming back.

Sophomore outside hitter Nancy Alcaraz (Manual Arts HS) led the Lady Cubs behind 14 kills and seven aces.

Freshman Virginia Flores (Manual Arts HS) recorded her fourth consecutive high-power game with 12 kills, 10 assists, and four aces.

Freshman Stephanie Cabrera (Los Angeles HS) was potent in the Lady Cubs defense with 19 digs and four aces. Sophomore middle-blocker Ana Avellan (Pacific Christian HS) added four blocks.

The Lady Cubs travel to East Los Angeles College and El Camino College for two matches this week.
