LA City Drops Two Crucial Games

Oct. 17, 2007

The Lady Cubs faced a tough week of last. They faced co-Conference leading Mt. San Antonio College (7-2, 4-0 in SCC) squad in The Gym before traveling to Cerritos College for a Friday night contest. The midweek meeting against Mt. SAC was closely contested but the final favor went to the Mounties. Cerritos benefited from the tough LA City loss by capturing a home match against the Lady Cubs.

The Lady Cubs dropped to third place in the South Coast Conference (2-3) and 2-6 overall. Four losses have come against 2006 Conference champions and/or State post-season play-off teams. It is clear that head coach Levik Abramians is urging his team to push through the “little blocks” that are standing in the way of the Lady Cubs defeating lesser teams.

The match lasted four games with Mt. SAC claiming three of the four games. All were extremely close except for the fourth and final game. The Lady Cubs fought back in the third game to win but couldn’t hold momentum. Game scores were 27-30, 26-30, 30-26, and 18-30.

“We expected a tough match but it was still one we could have won,” said Abramians. “We are placing ourselves in a position to win most of our matches but we are also, at times, creating our own obstacles to winning.”
