The Lady Cubs dropped a pair of close games last week but remain optimistic with matches this week against LA Trade Tech and East Los Angeles. LA City defeated both earlier this season.
The Lady Cubs are 2-5 in the South Coast Conference and 2-8 overall. Five losses have come against 2006 Conference champions and/or State post-season play-off teams.
Oct. 17 - LA City v. Pasadena City College
The Lancers may be one of the best performing teams in the South Coast Conference during the past two weeks as their win over the Lady Cubs was their seventh victory in their last nine matches.
The Lady Cubs started slowly in losing the first game, 20-30, before fighting back in games two and three albeit losing both, 28-30 and 24-30. Pasadena’s record improved to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the SCC.
Oct. 19 - LA City @ Long Beach City College
Long Beach City College’s Lady Vikings, the 15th ranked team in California (12-4, 5-2 in SCC), kept their momentum in Conference action as they defeated the Lady Cubs 7-30, 28-30, and 18-30.
LA City sophomore outside hitter Nancy Alcaraz (Manual Arts HS) led the Lady Cubs with 11 kills and three aces. Sophomore middle-blocker Ana Avellan (Pacific Christian HS) added three blocks.
Glendale College was the meet winner while placing four of their runners among the top-five finishers. Glendale’s Tove Berg took medalist honors with a time of 18:34.Rosa Altomstone was 69th overall (23:29) and the second LACC runner to finish. Adelina Lopez was close behind at 23:32 and 70th place.
Other Lady Cubs finishers included Izamar Serrano (94th, 25:17) and Natalie Aguilar (110th, 27:09).
