PAINTING & WATERCOLOR CLASS

Do you like to watercolor or have a passion for painting? Welcome to all who appreciate and enjoy this classic and contemporary art forum. Instructor Wayne Thomas will get you started in basic painting acrylic/oils and watercolor brush strokes techniques. Students will focus on either or both mediums of Watercolor and or Painting, with emphasis on understanding and experiencing color composition, value and design impact. A demonstration in mixing color, differing paint qualities, application, and use of brushes will be introduced. All are welcome to join this colorful, relaxing and fun class !!! Please bring watercolor set to 1st meeting of class. A material list will be issued to each student upon registration. Let your imagination soar as you learn the techniques for making beautiful balloon bouquets, arches, columns and sculptures. Let Mary Lou teach you about supplies, materials, safety and inexpensive resources in this fun, hands-on course. Also learn a bunch of ways to blow up balloons without having to huff and puff. BASIC SILKSCREEN PRINTING- The Basics

Create and print your own cool T-shirts, posters, note cards and the like while learning the fine art of Screen Printing. You will participate in every phrase of the process and get plenty of hands-on printing experience. The class will then culminate with each student producing a one-color print of their own design. Material fee of $35 payable to the instructor at 1st meeting of class - covers all necessary supplies. CANDLE MAKING

Candles are a beautiful addition to your home décor and make wonderful welcome gifts. This candle making workshop will cover the basic techniques for making both molded and container candles. Each participant will make and take home a colorful chunk candle, a floating candle, and a novelty gel candle. Handouts containing instructions, tips and techniques will be provided. Wear old clothes and closed toe shoes. (no sandles please). Material fee: $15 will cover all materials needed for class. Develop your creativity and save money while learning to sew. Open to men and women. No prior sewing experience necessary. HAND PAINTING SILK - I

A typical hand painted silk scarf sells for $25; a hand painted silk tie for $25 to $125, you can make them yourself for $5 to $7. There’s no end to the uses of painted silk clothing, pillows and other decorative items, including jewelry and more. Even if you don’t draw or paint, you can use scrunch technique or create your own design working from patterns. Find out how to properly stretch the silk on a frame, apply resist lines. Create colors, and use alcohol & salt effects. You’ll take home two 22-inch-square silk scarves, plus a stretching frame, bottles with tips, and mixing cups. FASHION PATTERN MAKING

Do you want to make your own fashion patterns? If so, this class is for you! In class we will develop a “block”, a basic pattern with your body measurements. This “block” is used to create a design by using a set of pattern making techniques. This class will cove: how to pivot, how to cut and how to spread the pattern to create other designs. By demonstration in class you will learn how to use the many different rulers and other tools to make patterns. A fabric test will be produced. Class is open to men & women ages 16+. Class will also cover: Fall unlined basic vest or unlined basic jacket. Winter: Basic skirt. Spring: Basic blouse. Summer: Basic shorts or pants. SEWING II- Fashion Pattern Adjustment Techniques

Now that you are familiar with the sewing machine operation but… don’t know how to alter the pattern for a custom fit! Don’t lose your passion for sewing! Learn pattern adjustment techniques: how to enlarge a pattern for large bust or reduce it for small bust, how to shorten or lengthen pants’ crotch and how to make other pattern alterations. In class the pattern is corrected, the garment is cut and sewn. Some advanced sewing techniques will be taught such as, buttonholes, invisible zipper, French seams and other decorative seams. GLASS FUSION – CREATE YOUR OWN JEWELRY

Learn how to create fused tiles or jewelry from glass. No prior glass experience is necessary. Have you ever wondered how to work with those teardrop shaped stones? In this class you’ll learn to wirte wrap briolette (teardrop shaped) semi-precious gemstone beads to a sterling silver chain to make a necklace and a pair of earrings. Students should bring round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, and wire cutters. MAKING GLASS BEADS

Two great reasons to make your own glass beads: First, the simplest bead in bead stores cost lots of money. 2nd, it’s very easy to create one-of-a-kind designs that are all yours! You’ll heat glass to a molten state and fashion it around rods to create beads/buttons for jewelry, clothing, random wire votive, stained glass windows, mosaics and whatever else you can dream up. All tools and materials are supplied for the class to make at least five glass beads, including round, flat, tabular and bi-conal. You’ll gain a working knowledge of bead making and the ability to continue making beads of your own at home. Class will be held off campus near L.A.C.C.
