GOLF FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Hey Kids - come join the fun this Summer and learn how to play Golf.  You don’t have to bring anything but yourselves. All Golf clubs and balls will be provided by your teacher.  Learn how the game is played, learn correct posture and golf stance, what golf club to use at different parts of the game, and what golf swing or stroke to use to get the best distance or shot. Ages 9-15. 

THREE INGREDIENT RECIPES FOR YOUNG CHEFS

Let Martin Yan’s cousin show you how to prepare some fun-and-easy recipes to make at home and also impress your friends and family.  Students will have lots of fun learning how to make yummy, sweet smelling chocolate-dipped strawberries or other fruits of your choice.  Students will also learn how to make beautiful delicious decorative and holiday pretzels.  Bring your appetite, imagination and join the fun. The importance of food handling, safety and ability to follow recipe instructions will be also be emphasized. Ages 8-16. Material fee of $12 payable in class. Class limited to 12 students.

SIX INGREDIENT RECIPES FOR YOUNG ADULTS

Participants will learn how to make scrumptious Armenian Pin-wheeled Hye Roll Sandwiches made of wheat wraps, turkey or ham, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese.  An excellent and crowd pleasing recipe for parties.  We will also learn how to clean, dry, slice and chop the ingredients stressing food handling and safety.  Ages 8-16. MATH SUCCESS CLASS

Assist your child for the challenges of this school year by enrolling him/her in this intensive advancement program. Each section limited to 12 students. WRITING

This workshop will teach your child how to write a report, starting by choosing a topic, and presenting the ideas clearly in an organized manner. Homework is given on a weekly basis. Material fee of $7 to be paid to teacher in class. Enrollment limited to 10 students.

READING

This class is designed to reinforce your child in his or her reading vocabulary, composition and writing skills. Each child will read to the class and to the teacher. Homework is given on a weekly basis. Material fee of $7 payable in class. Enrollment limited to 10 students.

READING READINESS GRADES K-1

Children will engage in literary activities and games to promote motivation to learn language related concepts such as nouns, adjectives and verbs. Children will create their own books, poems and stories through drawings, paintings, crafts and songs. Oral and written language supported through age appropriate literature. Material fee of $5 payable in class.

FUN WITH MATH CLASS – For Grades K-1

FUN WITH ABC’s – Part 1

Fun with ABC’s part 1 is for the very young and older children with no school experience. Age appropriate activities, crafts, arts, music and movement to promote early literacy and school motivation. Preschool children, 3 to 5 year olds must be accompanied by their parents. Material fee of $5 payable in class.  Enrollment limited to 12 students. 

S.A.T. PREPARATION

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is inevitable for all high school students planning to apply to a 4 year college/university.  With careful preparation, students will walk through SAT questions, practice analogies, grammar, critical thinking and higher mathematic applications. Students will also cover/study the new essay-writing portion of the GED test through practice preparation. In addition, participants will discover valuable test taking strategies/secrets about guessing. Included will be  a practice examination and an assessment. Cost  of SAT book $15 payable in class. (Grades 9-12). 

TYPING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Learn how to type the fun, fast and easy way. Typing will help your spelling and writing skills. Let your fingers do the talking! No experience necessary. Students are encouraged to repeat if additional practice or speedier progress is desired, and will include how to type reports, letters, postcards and envelopes. Age group 9+. Material fee of $3 payable in class. Class is held at 3020 Wilshire Blvd.

DREAMWEAVER - A COMPUTER CLASS FOR TEENS

Do you want to have your own home page? Do your friends have their own?  Come join us to learn how to create rollovers; editing, coding and much more.  Prior internet experience required.  Material fee of $5 payable in class.

SPANISH FOR TEENS

An introductory class open to young adults and teenagers who want to learn the basic fundamentals of reading, writing and speaking Spanish.  In addition to providing the practice needed to aid retention, this class will also provide the opportunity to develop a higher level of thinking skills as it aims at teaching how to use the language creatively.  Students will be using a syllabus covering topics appropriate to their age and interest.  Study materials will be provided at no extra cost.  Emphasis will be placed on grammar, pronunciation and conversational exercises.  Knowledge of Spanish not required.

ASTRONOMY FOR KIDS
The Solar System

Imagine your child finding a distant galaxy through a large telescope or following the contours of the craters on the moon!  Astronomy can open up new vistas for boys & girls as they study the cosmos.  Topics to be covered include: motion of heavenly bodies, nature of the sun, birth and death of stars, how to select and use telescope.  Kids, bring along mom or dad to this fun science activity!  Material fee of $4 payable in class.

GUITAR FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

The guitar is the easiest instrument to learn! Come discover the true and fun way of learning how to play the guitar. This class will teach you proper finger coordination, how to tune your guitar and how to understand basic music notes. Bring your own acoustic guitar. Ages 10-16. No class November 29 & 30. 

 SINGING FOR CHILDREN

Develop your child’s singing and music abilities through this fun and rewarding program.  No prior voice or singing necessary.  Each child will perform solo and with a group in class.  Material fee of $2 payable in class. Limited enrollment.  No Class November 29.

SUZUKI VIOLIN

Learn the violin thru the proven, world-famous method pioneered by Suzuki. Students will be tutored by a violin-master who will train the participants thru small group and individual modeling. Rental violin information provided at first class session. Strict limit of 8 students – age 7 and above. Class held off campus.

DRUMMING FOR KIDS & TEENS I

Learn to drum for a band or for fun. Learn everything from setting up drums to breaking them down. Class will cover: How to change drum heads, how to tune drums, basic beats, times, rolls, fills grooves and patterns. Get the inside on circle techniques, PLUS useful tips and tricks from expert drummers. Learn to take out songs from any genre like “Rock & Roll”, “Hard Rock”, “Pop”, “Punk Rock”, “Soft Rock”, “Metal”, “Ska”, “Nu Jazz”, “New Wave”, Electronic”, Indie Rock”, Disco, “Drum & Bass”, “Break Beats”, “Tribal”, “Hip Hop”, learn it all! This class is a continuation of Drumming for Young People with emphasis on more advanced techniques and drum notations. Prerequisites: drumming for Kids & Teens I  Please bring your drum book from level l class or purchase from teacher for $20. No class November 30.

PIANO FOR CHILDREN

Children will learn the correct fundamentals in playing the piano: Topics covered: Development in finger coordination, critical sense of listening; notations in pitch and rhythm; discipline in good practice habits with an appreciation of music through the piano as well as basic written theory. & Solo - ensemble repertoire will also be introduced. Ages 6 yrs. & up. Intermediate Piano Class requires: Basic knowledge of music note reading and completion of beginner piano class. Students in the Intermediate class will choose sheet music comparable to their level. (Recital Date*: students will each give a performance for parents, family and friends.) Each Piano section enrollment  limited to 12 students.  No class November 27 & 30. 

PAINTING AND WATERCOLORS
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Do you like to watercolor or like to paint?  Instructor Wayne Thomas will get you started in basic watercolor and paint brush stroke techniques. Develop your natural hidden and artistic talents of visualizing everyday objects and then watercolor/paint these images using your creativity, senses and imagination. Students will be given total encouragement and support in developing their artistic skills at their own pace.  Please bring basic watercolor set, brushes, paper and pencil at 1st class meeting.  Ages 10-17.    Instructor works for Disneyland as an artist and has showcased his works at art galleries throughout the U.S.A.  This instructor’s classes fill up fast  - so register early!!!   No class November 29.

DRAWING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Learn how to draw like a pro, get drawing tips and techniques on the characters or objects you like to draw. See your images come to life in this class. COMICS 101

What could be better than reading a great comic book? How about designing your own? You’ll learn how to create and design characters, work on a story line, do mock ups and finish with an 11x17” comic book page. Learn basic techniques of pencil sketching, how to simulate movement and what supplies you will need. If you like comics and like to draw, this class is for you! Bring a number 2 pencil to class. Ages 8-14. Material fee of $3 payable in class.

FOLKLORICO

Discover the rich tradition and beauty of the traditional folkloric dance of Mexico. Participants will learn basic dance steps, techniques and routines for this colorful performing art. Join this fun-filled and exciting class. No prior dance experience class needed. Instructor is fluent in both English & Spanish. Ages 6+

HIP HOP DANCING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Learn one of the most popular and requested dance styles in recent years. The instructor will teach you the steps and dance moves for this fun and exciting class. Ages 8-15. No Class November 29.

TENNIS FOR CHILDREN & TEENS

Develop a winning attitude with this lifetime sport. Basics are made enjoyable and simple, as they should be. Students will learn power positions for putting topspin and slice on the ball plus other basics as needed for good movement. Daphne Chinn is author of "Tough Tennis: How to Play Like a Pro." Please bring your own racket. Class held off-campus. Age group: 8-18 yrs.

BALLET FOR CHILDREN – BEG.

An introduction to pre-ballet techniques for children. The program will focus on the basic positions, steps, techniques and discipline of ballet. This workshop provides instruction in the correct use of the physical mechanics of motion while encouraging the spirit of dance in children. Class suitable for boys and girls!  No class Nov. 28 & 29.

BALLET FOR CHILDREN – INTERMEDIATE.

This class will be a continuation of beginning ballet, with concentration on posture technique, rhythm, ability to focus and more advanced ballet steps.  Requirements: Beginning ballet with knowledge and skills in five ballet positions and ballet steps.  No class November 29.

ICE SKATING FOR TOTS – AGES 3-5

This class will teach toddlers ages 3-5 years old the basic ice skating skills needed to get them started and begin ice skating. No prior ice experience needed.  All equipment provided by instructor. Early registration is encouraged as the class is limited to only 7 students. Students enrolled in this class may skate the public session on the day of their class for free. Saturday public session is from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Class held off campus.

ICE SKATING FOR KIDS – AGES 6-12

Join the fun, make new friends and impress your family with fun-on-ice skills. Basic training on ice skating for ages 6-12. No prior ice experience needed.  All equipment provided by instructor. Early registration is encouraged as the class is limited to 10 students. Students enrolled in this class may skate the public session on the day of their class for free! Saturday public session is from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Class held off campus.

MAKE-UP FOR TEENS

Come join us for an exciting class that will teach and inspire teens in ‘the art of make-up’. In this class students will learn the following:

1. Basic application of make-up, using touches of softness, neutral, shimmer & dramatic coloring;
2. Choosing make-up that will compliment skin tone;
3. Foundation and powder use;
4. Perfect eyebrows;
5. Undertones and color harmony analysis.

GYMNASTICS FOR KIDS

This course is designed to teach basic gymnastic skills to children with little or no experience. Emphasis is put on floor exercises and tumbling skills. Gymnastics skills increase overall flexibility, motor coordination as well as muscular strength and endurance. Besides learning gymnastics skills, the students acquire awareness about body movement and physical fitness. Each class begins with a comprehensive warm-up routine with an emphasis on flexibility.  KUNG FU FOR KIDS

What do Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li have in common? They all studied/practiced Kung Fu. Kung Fu is known as the father of Martial Arts. Come and learn Martial Arts/Kung Fu fluid movements as your body adapts to this ancient philosophy/training. Included will be gymnastics, self-defense and finding out your limits and potential. No experience necessary. Ages 6-12. Uniform not required.  No class November 30.

KARATE FOR KIDS

This coed workshop will cover Karate and Tae Kwon Do as a sport. Use it as a means of physical fitness and a discipline for everyday life. The workshop will cover calisthenics and basic karate techniques. Special emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals. Age group: 6-15 years. Gi (any color) or loose clothing required. Held at L.A.C.C.  No class November 29.

JUDO FOR CHILDREN

Judo is an official Olympic sport that offers self-defense skills for children including throwing and groundwork (grappling). Each class begins with warm-up exercises that increase cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and agility. This is an introductory course that combines beginners with intermediate and advanced students. Students have the option of belt rank promotion. The Southern California Black Belt Association officially recognizes all belt ranks. Boys and girls can participate. Age group: 6-13. Wear a long sleeve sweatshirt or judo uniform.
