LEARNING TO READ MUSIC

Have you always wanted to be able to decipher all those dots and symbols? This workshop is designed to help you read the universal language of printed music and translate musical notations to the instrument of your choice. Topics covered: notes, time-values, sharps, key and key signatures, scales, basic and applied harmony and ear training.

A SINGER'S PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP (Beg. & Int.)

DO YOU LOVE TO SING? Are you dreaming of being a pop star? Or have you not sung in years and are missing your passion for what your heart & soul longs for? THIS CLASS IS FOR YOU!! Topics will include: vocal technique, breathing/performance skills and developing audience rapport. Please bring sheet music for songs if you have it… McPhee and Dangcil’s teaching style has received international acclaim and recognition, most recently from the Best of L.A.’s premier Los Angeles Magazine. Peisha McPhee is the vocal coach for American Idol’s Katharine McPhee and will be featured on NBC’s “Doctor Keith Ablow. A CABARET PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP - ADVANCED

Come study with renowned Cabaret artist and teachers Peisha McPhee and Mel Dancil. This workshop is for singers and actors who want to work on developing a greater rapport with their audience, improve their vocal techniques, styling, patter, acting and communication skills. This Community Service class at Los Angeles City College is winner of the BEST CABARET CLASS in Best of Los Angeles Magazine. Students are encouraged to bring American Pop Standards or musical theatre repertoire. Please be prepared to sing on the first day of class. This class sells out very fast, so please register early to guarantee your space in class.  All ages welcome. Musician’s fee: $95.

BLUES HARMONICA
COME TO THE BLUES HARMONICA JAM SESSION

Learn how to quickly and easily play the harmonica. ‘jam with other musicians’, make the harmonica cry, wail, and laugh. Among the techniques presented will be: handling the instrument, breathe control, maximizing volume and how to recall different notes. No musical experience is necessary. Material fee of $14 payable to instructor at beginning of class. For students that don’t have a harmonica you may purchase one on the same day of class from the instructor for $11.Harmonica that will be used in class will be Diatonic in the key of C. MICROPHONE TECHNIQUES FOR VOICE AND MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

A two-day seminar for anyone who records using microphones in all recording formats and platforms - from computer to tape based. Specifically designed as a non technical class for singers, instrumentalists, songwriters and budding record producers. This class will focus on how to achieve professional sounding recordings using various combinations of microphones and microphone pre-amps. A great way to hear classic tube and ribbon mics along with reasonably priced new models in a professional studio environment. Class #1 outlines and illustrates the recording environment and specific types and models of microphones, while class #2, will involve live recording to illustrate mic techniques in practice. $2 material fee payable to instructor on 1st day of class or bring a recordable CD-R. INTRODUCTION TO STUDIO RECORDING

Ever wonder how hit records are made? How all the musical instruments and vocals come together? This class is a great opportunity for anyone who loves music and is a must for those planning a career in the music or film industry. Class held at Sunburst Recording Studios in Culver City, a 48-track facility, this one-day workshop will give you valuable hands-on experience. Learn about consoles, microphones, special effects and recording terminology and how to communicate with recording engineers. Gain insight into producing a recording session or setting up your own home studio. *Bob Wayne is director and chief recording engineer at Sunburst Recording Studios and has been active in audio production for over 20 years. Bob has won a Grammy in 2002 for the music on George Carlin’s Napalm and Silly putty audio CD, and has been Grammy nominated the last 4 times. $2 material fee payable to instructor on 1st day of class or bring a recordable CD-R.
