This page is provided by the IT department to answer some common questions.

LACC Web sites

Requesting Web Space
  • To request space, send your request to IT using the IT Help Desk system https://ithelpdesk.lacitycollege.edu.
  • For a Department Web site, the request must come from the department chair or supervisor.
  • In the request, include your name, title and the purpose of the site.
  • IT will create and configure the folder for the site.
  • You will be emailed the site information and instructions.

 

Updating the Site
  • To update Web pages, LACC has licenses for Adobe DreamWeaver to be installed in all LACC computers. If you don't have it installed, please request it at https://ithelpdesk.lacitycollege.edu.
  • You you prefer you can also use Sea Monkey that is also a WYSIWYG editor. It has less features than DreamWeaver but it can run from your Flash drive.
  • To upload/download Web pages, you can use DeamWeaver, WS_FTP LE, or Sea Monkey. Notice that Sea Monkey can only upload image files that are linked to the HTML files being uploaded. It will not upload any othe kind of files. WS_FTP LE and Sea Monkey are free for K-University students or employees, if it is used for academic purposes. If you don't have it installed, please request it at https://ithelpdesk.lacitycollege.edu.

After WS_FTP LE is installed, click "Connect"; the Session Properties window will open.
Then, click New and enter the site information.

After logging into the server, make sure that you check ASCII before uploading or downloading files.

WS_FTP Configuration for a Faculty Web site
  • Profile name: Any name to remember the upload/download settings.
  • Host Name/Address: IP address of the Faculty Web server     207.62.63.102
  • Host Type: Automatic detect.
  • User ID: Your UIA username entered as     lacc_uia\UIAusername
  • Password: Your UIA password.
  • Account: This should be left blank.
  • Comments: Anything you want.

  • Initial Remote Folder: This is the folder that you want to update in the Web server. Usually the name of the folder is the same as your UIA username.
  • Initial Local Folder: This is the folder in your computer where you keep the Web pages to be uploaded.
  • The rest can be left blank

WS_FTP Configuration for a Department Web site
  • Profile name: Any name to remember the upload/download settings.
  • Host Name/Address: IP address of the LACC Web server     207.62.63.102
  • Host Type: Automatic detect.
  • User ID: Username provided to you by IT.
  • Password: Password provided to you by IT.
  • Account: This should be left blank.
  • Comments: Anything you want.

Sea Monkey

Training for Sea Monkey can be found at the http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ or by contacting Staff and Organizational Development office at extension 2378.
Before uploading (or publishing) your files, you need to enter the Web site information in the "Publish Settings" settings window.

 

Sea Monkey Configuration for a Faculty Web site
  • To setup a location where you will publish your files, go to the Edit menu and select "Publishing Site Settings".
  • Site name: Any name to remember the upload settings.
  • Publishing Address: IP address or name of the Faculty Web server     ftp://faculty.lacitycollege.edu
  • User ID: Your UIA username entered as     lacc_uia\UIAusername
  • Password: Your UIA password.

  • To publish your page, go to Publish Page, select correct Site Name, complete the dialog window and click on Publish.
  • Site Name: This is the name of the settings for the upload.
  • Page Title: This is the title for the file to be published.
  • Filename: This is the name of the file you want to publish.
  • If your are not sure you have selected the correct configuration, select the Settings tab to see the configuration.

Basic Guidelines
  1. The Web server will look for your home page in the following order: index.html, index.htm
  2. Server side scripts (.asp, .php) are not supported.

 

Setting up Your Computer (Windows Machines)
This is optional but highly recommended.
  1. On your Desktop, double click on "My Computer".
  2. Click on the "View" menu and select List.
  3. Click on the "Tools" menu and select Folder Options.
  4. Click on the "View" tab. Check "Display the full path in the address bar" and "Display the full path in the title bar". Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types".
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Click the "Like Current Folder" button. A popup Window will show, click Yes.
  7. Click the "OK" button.
