This page is provided by the IT department to answer some common questions.

LACC Web sites

Requesting Web Space
  • To request space, send your request to ithelpdesk@lacitycollege.edu. The request must be sent from your LACC email account (___@lacitycollege.edu). If you don't have an LACC email account, it can be requested from here.
  • For a Department Web site, the request must come from the department chair or supervisor.
  • In the email, include your name, title and the purpose of the site.
  • IT will create and configure the folder for the site.
  • You will be emailed the site information and instructions.

 

Updating the Site
  • To update Web pages, LACC has licenses for Microsoft FrontPage to be installed in all LACC computers. If you don't have it installed, please request it at ithelpdesk@lacitycollege.edu
  • To upload/download Web pages, WS_FTP LE can be used. It is free for K-University students or employees, if it is used for academic purposes. If you don't have it installed, please request it at ithelpdesk@lacitycollege.edu.

After WS_FTP LE is installed, click "Connect"; the Session Properties window will open.
Then, click New and enter the site information.

After logging into the server, make sure that you check ASCII before uploading or downloading files.

WS_FTP Configuration for a Faculty Web site
  • Profile name: Any name to remember the upload/download settings.
  • Host Name/Address: IP address of the Faculty Web server     207.62.63.102
  • Host Type: Automatic detect.
  • User ID: Your UIA username entered as     lacc_uia\UIAusername
  • Password: Your UIA password.
  • Account: This should be left blank.
  • Comments: Anything you want.

  • Initial Remote Folder: This is the folder that you want to update in the Web server. Usually the name of the folder is the same as your UIA username.
  • Initial Local Folder: This is the folder in your computer where you keep the Web pages to be uploaded.
  • The rest can be left blank

WS_FTP Configuration for a Department Web site

  • Password: Password provided to you by IT.

Microsoft FrontPage

Training for FontPage can be found at the Microsoft FrontPage site or by contacting Staff and Organizational Development office at extension 2378.

 

Basic Guidelines
  1. The Web server will look for your home page in the following order: index.html, index.htm
  2. Server side scripts (.asp, .php) are not supported.

 

Setting up Your Computer (Windows Machines)
This is optional but highly recommended.
  1. On your Desktop, double click on "My Computer".
  2. Click on the "View" menu and select List.
  3. Click on the "Tools" menu and select Folder Options.
  4. Click on the "View" tab. Check "Display the full path in the address bar" and "Display the full path in the title bar". Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types".
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Click the "Like Current Folder" button. A popup Window will show, click Yes.
  7. Click the "OK" button.
