Campus Alert: Tropical Storm Hilary

August 20, 2023

By LACC

Dear LACCD Colleagues,

Out of an abundance of caution, I am authorizing remote work for District and campus employees on Monday, August 21, 2023. Accordingly, I have asked the college presidents to communicate to modify, cancel, or postpone any in-person events for Monday. Students can expect to have modified services offered remotely on Monday.

Because the impact of the storm is undetermined as of this writing, only essential facilities personnel, which may include facilities supervisors, groundskeepers, maintenance personnel, and custodians, should report to work as defined by the campus Facilities Director and approved by the College President. We are providing flexibility in the start time for these essential personnel to arrive on-site at 9:00 a.m. We expect to resume normal campus and District operations on Tuesday, August 22.

Additionally, we learned that LAUSD will close all schools on Monday, August 21. We know this may impact employees who are parents of LAUSD students. If you are unable to work remotely or choose not to, please contact your supervisor so that the appropriate absence forms can be submitted.

I encourage you to stay up to date with advisories issued by our local government agencies and to monitor our website at www.laccd.edu for updates.

The safety and well-being of everyone in the District is our priority.  I am confident that by prioritizing safety and flexibility, we can continue to uphold our standards of excellence and service for students and our community, even in challenging situations.

Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

Please stay safe,

Chancellor Francisco C. Rodriguez, Ph.D.
