Students TAP into MTA Savings - Only $15 for Spring 2009! |

Mayor Applauds MTA - LACCD Partnership Offering $15 Semester Pass to
Spring Students with 12 or More Units
Mayor Villaraigosa was on campus January 16th to launch the
TAP program, and Cubby welcomed Student Trustee Rose Bustos and
District Board Member Mona Field to the news conference
festivities.
All District students can now get a six-month Metro Transit
Pass for only $15 when they register for 12 units or more in the
Spring Semester. The bus pass, called I-TAP for Institutional
Transit Access Pass, is active through June 30, 2009 and is good
on all Metro Buses (including zone travel), Metro Rapid and Metro
Rail. (Metrolink
trains or DASH/LADOT buses are not included in this promotion.)
The pass is valid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
students can even commute to work. To ride Metro, students will
need to show the I-TAP pass and carry a valid Student ID card.
Full time students--those who are enrolled in 12
units or more--can obtain the pass for $15 in the LACC Business
Office by bringing proof of enrollment for Spring 2009 and a
current LACC ID card.
The I-TAP reduces parking demand, allowing more students more
access to campus and makes college more affordable by reducing
auto and gas costs.

LACCD Chancellor Explains California's Budget Monster |
|

Dr.
Marshall E. Drummond, LACCD Chancellor, brought along some District
administrators to answer questions at the semi-annual Open Forum.
From left are the Chancellor; John Clerx, Vice Chancellor of
Instructional and Student Support Services; Gary Colombo, Vice
Chancellor for Institutional Effectiveness; and Dr. Adriana Barrera,
Deputy Chancellor. Marvin Martinez, Vice Chancellor of Economic and
Workforce Development and David Beaulieu, District Academic Senate
president, were also present. |

The budget shortfall in California is simply a house of cards that
has finally collapsed, according to Chancellor Drummond, who spoke
at an Open Forum at LACC on December 9th.
"I'm suprised it took so long," he said. "The politicians
in Sacramento have been irresponsible, planning phony budgets for
years."
The Chancellor's overall message was that student success is still
important, even in light of the budget. Other highlights:
-
Money is coming
down the pipeline in the form of a Federal Stimulus package for
workforce development.
-
The change to
Delta Dental in the employee benefits package is a good one,
promising better customer service and a cost savings.
-
It's important
the campus work hard toward accreditation in 2009.
-
Money from the
recently passed Measure J will help modernization efforts throughout
the district.
-
We need to
recruit students agressively and students should be encouraged to
apply for financial aid. If they receive Board of Governors Fee
Waivers, they will not be affected by the proposed fee hikes in 2009

Ambassadors at Your Service! |
|
| |
|
 |
|
|
|
Introducing our LACC Ambassadors! |
|
The LACC ambassador program provides a leadership opportunity for
college students to promote the campus. As Ambassadors, students
develop leadership qualities, enhance interpersonal skills, network
with faculty, staff and administration, interact with other
students, and improve communication and public speaking skills.
Ambassadors help to develop, implement, and promote student
life functions such as welcome days, Denim Day, community service
and other events.
Ambassadors also serve as a student representatives along
with Associated Students Organization to welcome and host honored
guests and distinguished members of the college community.
Additionally, ambassadors take great pride in Los Angeles City
College and work together to create a dedicated, diverse and
energetic organization. For more info, contact Earic Peters. |
