November Event Notes:

Math Department Book Sale November 2-4:  This semester’s Math Dept Book Sale will be Monday November 2nd and Tuesday the 3rd, from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm; and Wednesday, November 4th, from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. We will be continuing our policy of selling many, many books for $1 for large books and 50 cents for small books. Math, science, and some others will be bargain-priced at $8 or less (a lot less in most cases). We will also have our usual 25 cent table, where you can find almost anything. All of the proceeds from the sale of these books will go to scholarships for LACC students, so please come by. The sale will be on the Third Floor of Jefferson Hall, in and around JH 312 (the Math Dept).
Cinema Dept. Special Event - Guest Speaker November 10:  The Cinema/TV Dept. will present film producer Sean Ramsay in Communications Building 176, at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, November 10. Mr. Ramsay, producer of the new feature film Victory Day (premiering in theatres this week), will talk about his experiences shooting the film in Russia, the Czech Republic and Australia, and finishing the post production in Germany. Focusing on the pluses and minuses of being an American filmmaker overseas, he will talk about the process of taking this personal feature project, (a drama-thriller about a journalist who takes on an oligarch implicated in the sabotage of reforms and privatization of Russia in the 1990's) from concept to theatrical distribution. Admission is free and everyone is invited to attend.
Free Film Screening November 10:
Join us in a film screening (see Flyer) of SPEED-DATING on Tuesday, November 10, 6:30 - 9:30 pm in Holmes Hall 6. This screening is free to students, but please register at www.speed-datingmovie.com or by email at speed.datingwebcast@gmail.com After the screening the cast will be on hand for Q&A.
Veterans Day Event November 12:  The LACC Council for Veteran Programs is hosting a celebration to honor all of those who have served in the Armed Forces. The event will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2009, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm in the North Quad, with a special program from 12:15 - 12:45 pm. We would like to take this opportunity to invite and encourage all staff, faculty, and administration veterans to attend this event. We want to honor YOUR service as well as that of our students AND to demonstrate to student veterans that their service connects them with a larger group, something with a sense of continuity through time and location. Also, lunch will be sold for $6.00 and for that you will receive three freshly made tacos of your choosing and a drink. ALL the proceeds from the lunch will go to our Veterans Scholarship Fund!  All veterans (with identification) will receive a lunch ticket for a free meal. Event Flyer
