Music Dept Free Concert Series:
  The LACC Music Department Concert Series
features free daytime performances by professional musicians on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning at 12:10 pm, in Clausen Hall 247, and lasting about an hour.  Evening free concerts begin at 7:00 pm, or as noted.  For more information on the LACC Music Department, call (323) 953-4000 ext 2880, or visit their website. Free concerts will resume in the Spring Semester.
Career Center Workshops:  Once again this semester, the Career Center will be presenting a full program of Free Workshops [PDF] to help you make and carry out your career plans.  Workshops are usually held in either AD 303 or AD 109, and last about one hour.
Transfer Center Workshops & University Representatives:  The LACC Transfer Center will again offer a full program of workshops and consultations with visiting representatives from four-year colleges and universities, to help you make transfer plans and carry out your educational goals.  For more details, see the Transfer Center Calendar.

Book Program Kickoff March 23:  The LACC Book Program is sponsoring three events this spring related to its book of the year, "ZEITOUN," by Dave Eggers.  Noted authors and poets -- including Michelle Alexander, Solmaz Shariff , and Mike Davis -- will be participating as guest speakers.  The first event takes place March 23, when highly acclaimed author and civil rights activist Michelle Alexander will speak on "The New Jim Crow," drug laws and racial injustice.  A book signing will follow.  This event will be held in Clausen Hall 247, at 12:00 pm, Wednesday March 23.  Everyone is invited.

Arts Advocacy Day Video April 6:  The Psychology Department will be participating in the 24th annual Arts Advocacy Day by showing the video Van Gogh: Medical Secrets on Wednesday, April 6, at 12:30 pm in Holmes Hall 101. This revealing program explores the questions of what drove Van Gogh to suicide and whether his madness actually made him great. Using the artist as a case study in bipolar affective disorder, and dissecting his pathology using many works as indicators, experts from Harvard and Johns Hopkins delve into the mind of an artist who created a new art form.

City Chemistry Seminar April 14:  The first City Chem Seminar of the Spring Semester will take place on Thursday, April 14, at 3:30 pm in SCI 132Drs. Chris Wheeler and Dwain Morris-Irvin, from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, will discuss the topics Cancer Vaccine and Treating Neurodegenerative Diseases. Hands Across California April 17:  Hands Across California will bring Californians statewide together to benefit California's community colleges and their students. It will take place on Sunday, April 17, at 2:00 pm on the Quad. HAC will connect all 112 California Community Colleges in a single human chain throughout the state. Psychology Dept Guest Speaker April 27:  The LACC Psychology Department will present noted forensic criminologist and author Dr. Eric W. Hickey on Wednesday, April 27, 12:00 - 2:00 pm in Holmes Hall 6Dr. Hickey is the Director of the Center for Forensic Studies at Alliant International University, teaches criminal psychology at Cal State Fresno, and has written numerous books on violent crime, serial killers, and the psychology of criminal behavior.
Getty Center Museum Trip April 29:  The LACC Ambassadors are sponsoring a free field trip to the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center on Friday, April 29, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.  The trip is open to all current LACC students -- just sign up in the Office of Student Life in the Cub Center.  Trip participants will meet at the Cub Center at 9:30 am; transportation will be provided.

LACC Ambassadors Art Walk May 12:  The LACC Ambassadors would like to invite you to the Downtown Art Walk this Thursday, May 12th! The Art Walk brings together art lovers and community friends to the ever-evolving downtown Los Angeles. With exciting and unique offerings around every corner, downtown celebrates the arts each and every month on the 2nd Thursday. For the true art buyers and fans, arriving early offers a more relaxing stroll through the different galleries and art exhibits. As the evening progresses, more visitors descend on the area to meet up with friends and savor the local experience. Visitors and local downtowners can often be found patronizing the outcropping of local shopping, dining and entertainment establishments that have created the thriving, vibrant community. This event is completely free! We will meet at 5:00 PM at the Office of Student Life and will proceed to the Metro Red Line no later than 5:15 PM. City Chemistry Seminar May 19:  The final CityChem Seminar of the spring semester will be presented on Thursday, May 19, at 3:30 pm in SCI 132. English/ESL Dept. Writing Contest Awards May 24:  The winners of the English/ESL Dept's annual Writing Contest will be honored at an Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 24, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm in the Camino Theatre on the LACC Campus. Come help us celebrate our student authors!

Dance Program Spring Concerts May 25 & 26:  The LACC Dance Program will present its annual Spring Program of student dance demonstrations on Wednesday & Thursday, May 25 & 26.  The May 25 demonstration is free, and will begin at 12:00 noon in Women's Gym 107.  The May 26 concert will be given in the Camino Theatre at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are $7.00, and may be purchased online at the Theatre Academy Website.

ASO Presents D-Day May 26:  D-Day is a day of education dedicated to disabled students. The D-Day Awareness Event [PDF] will take place on Thursday, May 26, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on the Main Quad and in Holmes Hall 6.  Presented by the Associated Students Organization.

Campus Open Forum June 2:  The Educational Planning Subcommittee which is currently conducting a Viability Study on Academic Affairs concerning Departmental Configuration will be hosting an OPEN FORUM at the Academic Senate meeting on Thursday, June 2, at 1:00 pm in the Faculty & Staff Center. The entire campus community is welcome to attend, get information, and ask questions.

Spring Commencement June 7:  This year's Spring Graduation Ceremonies will be held on the campus of Cal State Los Angeles, 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles CA 90032, at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 7.  Guest Speakers will include US Congressman John Lewis (D-GA), and noted network legal analyst Lisa Bloom.  Four hours of release time are available for LACC faculty and staff who wish to attend.  Commencement & Rehearsal Information.

Career Center Workshops:  Once again this semester, the Career Center will be presenting a full program of Free Workshops [PDF] to help you make and carry out your career plans.  Workshops are usually held in either AD 303 or AD 109, and last about one hour.  The Career Center, in collaboration with LACC’s CalWorks Department and the Department of Public Social Services, presented its annual spring Career Fair on Thursday, April 28, in the Main Quad.

Halloween Masquerade Ball: The Performing Arts Club invites everyone at LACC to be part of the Halloween Masquerade Ball this Friday October 28th in the Cub Center at 6.00 pm, with an admission of $7.00 and $5.00 for ASO members. There will be free food and refreshments, live DJ, costume and dance contests (so get your outfit and your moves ready) and poker night!  Tickets can be purchased at mask sale outside the MLK Library this week from 12 to 6 or by contacting any of the members of the club performingartsclub.lacc@yahoo.com, in facebook/pac lacc, or text (213) 820 8872.
Masquerade Ball 10/28
Free Flu Shots for Students Nov. 1- 4: The LACC Health and Wellness Center (Life Sciences 101) will provide 200 flu shots free of charge for students, first come-first-serve, starting Tuesday, Nov. 1. Flu vaccine will be available from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 11:00 am. Students must show their student ID card and current registration to get the vaccine. These inoculations do include H1N1 flu vaccine.
PAHfest Hollywood Oct. 22-29:  PAH Fest -- Christopher Coppola's Project Access Hollywood -- returns to LACC from Saturday, October 22 through Saturday, October 29.  Contest events for artists, musicians, and budding filmmakers will let you explore your creativity, and gain valuable hands-on experience at the same time.
