Dr. Scot Brown, UCLA professor of history, will be the guest speaker at a gala fundraiser presented by the LA City College African-American Heritage Committee on Sat., Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m.at the Regency West in Leimert Park. Funds raised will go toward student scholarships at Los Angeles City College. The event will include dinner and dancing and also feature a silent auction. Mr. Brown was the recent author of “Fighting For Us: Maulana Karenga, The US Organization and Black Cultural Nationalism.” He has written a number of articles as well as his dissertation on the US organization and the Black power movement. He received his doctorate and master of arts in history from Cornell University. He also holds a master of professional studies in African and Afro-American studies from Cornell. He was a recipient of the Lorenzo J. Greene Award, in the Graduate Essay Competition sponsored by the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History.
