General Principles for How to Study a Foreign Language Cont

  Foreign Language - CONSTRUCTION:
  1. Read the English and be sure that you understand the sentence. Also see if you spot a or construction or idiomatic expression that has been given emphasis in the lesson. (There are usually practice examples in the constructions that have been drawn from the lesson.
  2. Attempt to construct the sentence from what you have learned, paying careful attention to agreement of verbs, adjectives, nouns and pronouns.
  3. Check your construction either by looking in the lesson rules or in the foreign language reading passages. Also check uncertain vocabulary words.
  4. Read over your construction to be sure that it is not a literal translation of the English but that it says what it should say in the foreign language structure.
  5. Such constructions should have been made the constructions should be repeated using the correct expressions. (It is good for this to follow soon after the class hour.)
