The Library offers campus and community users access to a collection of over 130,000 books, 130 periodical and newspaper subscriptions, online databases and microforms. Access is also provided to electronic resources such as magazine and newspaper indexes, full-text journal and subject databases and the Internet. Computers are located throughout the Library and are available on a first come, first serve basis. Library facilities offer both individual and group study space, a periodicals reading room and access to word processing, printing of Microsoft Word documents, photocopiers, and microform reader-printers.

Reference area is located on the second floor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. building. A Librarian is available to answer questions and assist with research.

Circulation:

Circulation, located at the entrance to the Library on the second floor of the Martin Luther King, Jr., building, checks out books from the main collection and books and textbooks from the Reserve Book and Textbook Rooms. The door to the Book Stacks closes 15 minutes before the Library's posted closing time.

Periodicals:

Periodicals, located on the third floor of the Martin Luther King, Jr., building, circulates periodicals and newspapers. Periodicals closes 15 minutes before the Library's posted closing time. All materials must be checked out 15 minutes before the Library closes.

Technical Services:

Technical services is located on the second floor of library. This department does ordering and cataloging of the books.

Library Policies

Loan Periods:

  • Books, 4 weeks, no renewals.
  • Periodicals: 1 day, 1 renewal.
  • Reserve Textbooks: 2 hours (Use in Library), no immediate renewals.
  • Reserve Materials: 1 week, no renewals.

    Library Cards:
    Library materials circulate to LACC and ITV students enrolled in the current semester and to college employees. The Library does not issue individual cards to students. All students are expected to present the LACC Cub ID Card or a current Registration Receipt plus one other form of picture identification to obtain library materials. (Ask library employee which IDs are acceptable.) LACC Cub ID Card can be obtained from the Administration Bldg., Room 107, with a current registration receipt plus any picture identification. ITV Students must present a Registration receipt which shows that they are enrolled in ITV classes. College employees must complete an LACC Library Card Application and show a valid LACC Cub Card ID for Faculty or Staff in order to obtain a Library card.

    Overdue Fines: Library materials kept past their due date are subject to the following fine schedule.

  • Books: $ .10 per day up to $5.00
  • Periodicals: $ .25 per day up to $5.00
  • 2 hour Textbooks: $1.00 per hour up to $100.00
  • Reserve Materials: $ .25 per day up to $10.00

    Lost Materials: All library users are responsible for lost library materials. The replacement policy is as follows.

  • Books: Replacement cost of a book, plus a $10.00 processing fee.
  • Unclassified paperbacks $3.00, plus $2.00 processing fee.
  • Periodicals: $10.00, plus $2.00 processing fee.
  • Reserve Textbooks: Current price of the item, plus a $10.00 processing fee
  • Reserve Materials: Current price of the item, plus a $10.00 processing fee

  • Damaged Materials: Items which the Library judges to have been damaged by the borrower shall be evaluated by the Circulation Department and repair or replacement fees will be assessed based on the extent of the damage.

    Library Holds: Students with outstanding fines will not be allowed Library circulation privileges. If fines are not paid, students' records will be placed on hold, and this will prevent any Admissions Office processing, including, but not limited to, future registration, issuing of grades or transcripts, and graduation from the college.
