Los Angeles City College Library Expanded Academic ASAP Tutorial |
Expanded Academic ASAP provides an optional "limit the current search" feature that allows you to impose specific controls (a.k.a. limiters) on the search to produce a smaller result set that is more precisely focused on what you want.
The following are the four ways you can limit your search:
| 1. | By checking the: ”to articles with text” box you limit your search to only articles with full text online, thus eliminating any citation/abstract-only articles. |
| 2. | Refereed (a.k.a. peer-reviewed, or scholarly) journals are those in which articles, before they are published, must be checked for scholarly accuracy and quality by a body of peers (scholars and professionals working in the same field). The referee (peer-review) process ensures that data and methodology used by the author(s) have met high academic standards and resulted in widely respected publication. |
| 3. |
You can limit your search result to include only material published on, before, after a date or within a range of dates. You may use various formats to write in the dates. Here are few examples:
|
| 4. | To limit your search to particular periodicals just click on the by journal entry box, and type one or more words. Because the search is matching words in journal names, there's a potential for unintended matches even if you enter the entire name. For example, the search new york would match not only New York magazine but also The New York Times and The New York Times Magazine. To get only an exact match, enclose the search term in double quotes; for example, "new york" to match only New York magazine. |
