California Work Opportunities and Responsibility for Kids (CalWORKs) is an innovative program, which provides the opportunity for students receiving public assistance, the benefit of workforce training, education and childcare services at no cost!  Students receive assistance in completing:

  • Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN) paperwork to receive all their Books and Supplies free of cost

  • Child Care paperwork to receive excellent care for their child/children while in classes

  • Financial Aid application, which will pay the tuition for classes

In addition, the Los Angeles City College's (LACC) CalWORKs Program offers individualized academic counseling to  help students choose a career, classes, and obtain a certificate, degree, or prepare for transfer to a four-year college.

The LACC CalWORKs staff is always prepared to assist students in completing their educational goals, resolving issues as they arise, and celebrating academic success!

CalWORKs Mission:

The Los Angeles City College CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids) Program provides access to educational programs for student-parents receiving cash aid, which will empower students to embrace their Dreams, Achieve their academic and career goals and Succeed in long-term economic self-sufficiency.

Student Learning Outcomes:

The student will:

Outcome #1: Students who attend and participate in CalWORKs job development workshops will be able to develop personal resumes and acquire job interview skills. 

Outcome #2: At the end of each semester, students will evaluate the services they receive from CalWORKs by completing a customer service survey.
