TRANSFER STUDENTS

The following information is intended for students who are planning to transfer mid-year to Los Angeles City College from another college.

Five (5) Steps for Transfer Student Applicants

Step 1:
Go on-line at FAFSA on the Web and make a correction to add Los Angeles City College school code ("001223") on the form.

Step 2:
Within a week or two, the Financial Aid Office will send a Document Request Letter to the applicant by e-mail or regular mail.

Step 3:
Bring all the requested documents as listed on the Document Request Letter to the Financial Aid Office to initiate the processing of financial aid application. Be sure to enroll in classes as early as possible.

Step 4:
The Financial Aid Office will process the application and send an Award Notification Letter to the transfer student applicant.

Step 5:
If the applicant has signed up for Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT), the Financial Aid check disbursements will automatically be deposited to the new student’s checking or savings bank account. Otherwise, checks are mailed to the applicant’s mailing address beginning in the first week of the semester. Applicants may also request that financial aid checks be held on campus for pick-up.

Things to Know

  • A student may receive financial aid at one college only, unless the student has a consortium agreement approved by two institutions.
  • All colleges within the Los Angeles Community College District have an "automatic" consortium agreement so there is no need to complete a paper consortium agreement form.
  • A financial aid package at one institution is not readily transferable to Los Angeles City College. The Financial Aid Office at Los Angeles City College will have to reprocess the application before it can award financial aid to transfer students.
  • Students transferring from another institution should bring an academic transcript from a previous institution to a counselor for evaluation.
  • It is the transfer student's responsibility to notify the financial aid office at the previous college of their intent to transfer. This will allow the previous college to cancel the financial aid package for the remaining term at their institution.
