Re:     The Los Angeles Prefreshman Engineering Program (LA PREP) for 7th through 10th grade students, July 7 through August 21.

Once again, the Prefreshman Engineering Program will take place on the campus of Los Angeles City College. Due to support form NASA and the University of Texas, San Antonio; this program is completely free to first year participants. Students also receive lunch and bus/subway tokens if needed.

LA PREP is a hands-on, mind-on summer college program for achieving precollege students. First year students will take two college courses: Introductory Electronics and Programming Logic. Returning students have a choice of Biology and Astronomy; or Chemistry with Lab. The Chemistry Option requires completion of Algebra 1 or equivalent.

The minimum qualifications for LA PREP are: grade point average of 3.0 or higher and a “B” or better in math. First year applicants must currently be in 7th through 10th grade.

If you know of any students who would benefit from this program, please pass a copy of this application of to them; or have them contact me at any of the numbers on the application.

One last thing! This year we will also be offering cash awards of up to $400 to our top students! So again, if you can think of any students who are well qualified, please let them know about this program. Who knows what impact this college experience and a $400 scholarship may have on a young person’s academic career?

I thank you – and the students in your life thank you – for your assistance!
