IMPORTANT DATES
Next Page >
In every Schedule of Classes, LACC prints a section called Dates-To-Know. Dates-To-Know consists of important dates that you need to be familiar with. These dates include:
- When registration begins for new and continuing students;
- When classes begin;
- Days that the college is closed;
- The final exam schedule (Note that your instructor may administer the final exam on a different day.);
- When classes end; and
- A list of deadline dates called “Last Day To.”
“Last Day To” days are extremely important. They consist of the last day to:
- Drop a class with a refund;
- Add classes;
- Drop classes without a W;
- Drop classes with a W; and
- File for Credit/No Credit Classes.
If you ever need to drop a class, the earlier you do so, the better. If you drop your class before the deadline to drop with a refund, you will get your money back and the class will never appear on your transcript. If your drop before the deadline to drop without a “W” (withdrawal), you won’t get your money back, but the class will not appear on your transcript. Dropping before this deadline is important because too many W’s on your transcript do not look good and may result in academic probation. If you need to drop a class and missed the deadline to drop without a W, you should try to drop with a W. Although too many W’s look bad on your transcript, a W looks better than a D or a F!
Dropping a course is easy. You can drop a course:
- in person at the Admissions Office using a drop card;
- over the telephone by using STEP;
- over the internet using the Student Information System (SIS) on the LACC website; or
- by accessing the SIS on one of the electronic kiosks on campus.
You can get a receipt from the Admissions Office, internet, and on the electronic kiosks. Keep a copy for your records!
There is also a deadline to file for Credit/No Credit. This deadline is usually the same as the deadline to drop without a W. When you file for Credit/No Credit, you receive credit for the course when you would have received a grade of C or better; you get no credit when you would have received a grade of D or F. In each Schedule of Classes, there is a list of courses that qualify for Credit/No Credit.
Do not take credit/no credit classes for your prep (preparatory) courses.
