VETERANS' RESOURCE CENTER

Program’s Mission Statement:
The mission of the Veterans Program is to provide military veterans with the resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education.

Program’s Description:
The Veterans Program promotes an attitude of collaboration within the campus and surrounding community to increase awareness and sensitivity to issues concerning veterans. The goal of the program is to create an encouraging environment by acknowledging, honoring, and addressing veterans’ unique needs, while helping them attaining their educational goals.

Program’s Learning Outcomes
The student will:
1. Discover campus and community resources available to veterans;
2. Demonstrate social responsibility through participation in Veterans Club activities;
3. Demonstrate self-advocacy skills.

VETSUCCESS ON CAMPUS (VSOC)

LACC currently participates in the VSOC program. The VSOC program aims to help student Veterans and their qualified dependents succeed and thrive through a coordinated delivery of on-campus benefits assistance and counseling leading to completion of their education and preparing them to enter the labor market in viable careers.

FEELING STRESSED? NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO?

Ms. Helen Yum is available on campus every Monday to meet with student veterans. Feel free to contact Ms. Yum at hyum@usvetsinc.org or at (562) 373-5477 to set up an appointment.

BOOK LOAN PROGRAM
The VRC now has a few books, available for use within the building, during office hours! Books include texts for: Cinema 1-4, Psychology 1, 63, 64, 65, 67 & 83.  To borrow the books, bring your ID to the VRC.

APPLICATION PROCESSGENERAL OFFICE INFORMATION

STEP 1:  Complete the LACC college application

STEP 2:  Schedule an appointment to take the math and English placement test.

STEP 3:  Attend a college orientation and meet with an academic counselor to develop a Student Educational Plan.

STEP 4:  Visit the Veterans On-Line Application(VONAPP) site to apply for benefits.

STEP 5:  Complete a VA Contract and submit to the Veterans' Affairs Office.

STEP 6:  Register for classes and pay your fees at the College Business Office.
