News and Events for the week of August 20

This Week @ City

Good Monday Morning:

In only one week we begin the fall semester. I am extremely proud of all of the work that has been done in the past few months to help boost enrollment and prepare our campus for another year. Our enrollment is up by 9% and our headcounts is up by 12%. This means that all of the great efforts worked. We stabilized enrollment and we are gowing. And we balanced our budget. We are off to a great start for 2018-19!

Management Team Retreat

Last Tuesday, August 14, we held an all-day Management Team retreat to help us energize and focus on strategies for the upcoming year. We packed the day with activities and ended the retreat by examining our external environmental data. In our next Management Team meeting in September, we will go over the details of the new funding model so that we are all on the same page for the coming year.

State Budget Workshop

I had the opportunity to attend the State Budget Workshop last Wednesday, along with AVP Anil Jain, VP Dan Walden, and Dean Anna Badalyan. We are ensuring we fully understand what is happening with the new funding model. Look for a date wherr we will have ameeting especially to provide you with detailed information about the new funding formula and its expected effects.

Ralph Bunche Scholars Program

LACC’s Ralph Bunche Scholars (RBS) program is recruiting new students, and we need your help!  We want to reach as many motivated students who are serious about transferring to four-year schools as we can. You know best who the students with the most potential are. If you are not familiar with the RBS, here are some of its benefits: special admission consideration at any UC or at any private university that requires a personal statement, with a particularly strong advantage at UCLA though our TAP certification program; access to special workshops and conferences; and unique scholarship, research, and leadership opportunities. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the program at: rbscholars@lacitycollege.edu or visit the RBS website at: http://www.lacitycollege.edu/services/honorsprogram/index.html. Your assistance to get this word out is greatly appreciated.
