News and Events for the week of September 10

This Week @ City

Good Monday Morning:

We are now well into the beginning of our fall semester. Today is census and I am very happy to report that our enrollment numbers are holding and we are currently at 107% of fall 2017. We are the only college in the District up that amount. The District overall is below 100%. The guaranteed course offerings worked, the Online Academy worked, and our marketing efforts worked. But most of all, you all worked to help our students get into classes. Thank you for the great work!

Board of Trustees Meeting at LACC This Wednesday at 3:00

The Board of Trustees begin their meetings at the colleges this year at LACC on Wednesday, September 12. The public session begins at 3pm and will be held in the Student Union 3rd Floor Multipurpose Room. I will be doing the “Welcome to LACC” shortly after the flag salute. I would like to invite all of you to attend and be recognized as I introduce LACC to the Board of Trustees. The Student Trustee, Kellie Willems, is an LACC student as well. I am so proud of the work we are doing here at City that I want to show you all off!  Please plan to join us. Wear your Believe Achieve Succeed t-shirt. If you do not have one, we have some in the President’s Office, only XL and XXL right now, but we expect medium and large by Tuesday afternoon. Please plan to join us to show off LACC.

Guided Pathways Kickoff

Last week we held a very successful Guided Pathways Kickoff to inform the campus of the work that has been done to meet our five year Guided Pathways plan. There was pizza, ice cream, information and a great exercise on meta majors that everyone participated in. The end result of this work is to create clear curricular pathways to employment and further education for our students. Thanks to everyone who participated. Please remember to contact Professor Jeffrey Nishimura or Dean Drew Yamanishi to volunteer to help with our Guided Pathways Program.

Get Your Spirit Gear!

The Cub Store is having its Back To School Clothing Sale starting today, Monday, September 10 through next Friday, September 21., with 20% off clothing. I got a sneak peek last week and they have some wonderful new LACC gear!

New Suggestion Box on the LACC Website

We have launched a new suggestion box on our website. There is a button to click on the home page that takes you to a form to complete. The ideas and issues are then routed to Institutional Effectiveness for further distribution to the party who can take action. Suggestions and comments can be submitted anonymously. We are continually working to improve and whatever you see that needs improvement, please let us know.
