News and Events for the week of August 1

Good Monday Morning, 

It is already August and Fall term will begin in a few weeks. Students can register now for online, hybrid and in-person classes. The Fall schedule of classes is in the student portal at mycollege.laccd.edu.

Transfer Workshops

This Tuesday, August 2 at 11am (Zoom, , join at https://tinyurl.com/TransferPIQ) and Wednesday, August 3 at 3pm, (in-person second floor of the Student Services Building),  the Transfer Department will host a Transfer Workshop: Personal Insight Questions. For students planning to apply to a UC campus, this webinar will provide tips and guidelines for the application process.  For questions, contact Charnnel Ellis at elliscs@laccd.edu.  

Animation Bootcamp

This Wednesday, August 3, we will conclude a summer bootcamp on animation we have held for our local high school students. There are 48 students from various high schools in our area who have participated in this program. Thank you to Professor Khana for making this great opportunity happen for our local community of young artists.  

Annual Employee Picnic

We are back for our Annual Picnic at Crystal Springs on Thursday, August 11 at 12:00 noon. Your families are welcomed to join us for an afternoon of activities, music, food and overall just fun! We will have Pink’s Hot Dogs and Patty’s Hamburgers again this year. Be sure to sign up. 

LACC Enrollment Extravaganza

On Saturday, August 13 from 9am until 2pm, we are having a big LACC Welcome Day that we plan to be an enrollment extravaganza. We are inviting our community out that day to see our great offerings at LACC. This year we will feature departments throughout the college. Please be sure to represent. You are needed; if you want to work, faculty will receive a stipend and classified will receive overtime. The deadline to register to work this special event will be Thursday, August 11 at 4pm. The Fall Faculty Symposium

The Fall Symposium for all faculty, staff and administration will be held on Thursday, August 25 at 8:30am in person in the Multipurpose Room of the Student Union. Please mark the date on your calendar and look out for a website to sign up to attend. Say “hello” to everyone over a hot breakfast. 

Dream Resource Center Orientations

The LACC Dream Resource Center is pleased to announce Undocu-Welcome Orientations for the month of August. English language orientations will take place Thursday, August 4 (online) and Tuesday, August 16 (Student Services Building, Room 270) at 3pm. A Spanish Language orientation will take place Wednesday, August 10 at 3pm (Student Services Building, Room 270). During the UndocuWelcome Orientations, the DRC team will share important information to help undocumented students navigate their educational journey at LACC successfully (topics include AB 540/SB 68 Non-Resident Tuition Exemption affidavit / CA Dream Act financial assistance, free immigration legal assistance, and more). After the orientation, students will have the opportunity to join the DRC program as official DRC members, ask questions, engage with the center and schedule an appointment with the DRC counselor.

Cubby’s Closet

The new Cubby’s Closet will launch for the Fall semester. We are accepting any donations of gently used clothing, shoes, toys, and luggage and any new undergarments and socks. All donations can be dropped off to the Office of Student Life Monday – Thursday, 9:30am to 4:30pm and Friday 8am to 2pm.  

Masking Updates

Our current status of no indoor masking remains and we will keep you updated on any changes.
