News and Events for the week of May 16

Good Monday Morning,

This week is Classified Appreciation Week and we have fun activities lined up all week for our classified staff. We are kicking off the week with a brown bag lunch and bingo today; Tuesday we will host an ice cream social; Wednesday we will be enjoying pizza, painting, and plants; Thursday we are hosting a BBQ with hot dogs and burgers; and Friday we will end the week with a special coffee break. All activities will take place in the 3rd floor Student Union Multipurpose Room and Balcony.

In-Person Graduation

We are in the final countdown for our in-person graduation at the Greek Theater. We will be asking everyone to RSVP so that we know how many people will be there. We will have a very special guest speaker. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Please make sure you have it on your calendar – Tuesday, June 7 at 5:00 p.m. We are inviting graduates from our Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 because they did not get the full benefit of a graduation ceremony.

Theatre Academy Presents Vanities

Monday, May 16 at 6pm

The Portico Stage, Theater Arts, free, donation of $10 suggested

This bittersweet comedy is an astute, snapshot-sharp chronicle of the lives of three Texas girls. In 1963, Joanne, Kathy, and Mary are aggressively vivacious cheerleaders. Five years later in their college sorority house, they are confronting their futures with nervous jauntiness. In 1974, they reunite briefly in New York. Their lives have diverged and their friendship, which once thrived on assumptions as well-coordinated as sweater sets, is strained and ambiguous. Old-time banter rings false. Their attempts at honest conversation only show they can no longer afford to have very much in common. Also playing May 19 at 8pm.  Contact the Box Office for all three plays at 323.953.4000 ext. 2990 or boxoffice@lacitycollege.edu.

Theatre Academy Presents The Taming

In this hilarious, raucous, all-female “power-play” inspired by Shakespeare’s Shrew, contestant Katherine has political aspirations to match her beauty pageant ambitions. All she needs to revolutionize the American government is the help of one ultra-conservative senator’s aide on the cusp of a career breakthrough, and one bleeding-heart liberal blogger who will do anything for her cause. Well, that and a semi-historically accurate ether trip. Also playing May 21. Contact the Box Office for all three plays at 323.953.4000 ext. 2990 or boxoffice@lacitycollege.edu.

Theatre Academy Presents Lobby Hero

Wednesday, May 18 at 8pm

The Portico Stage, Theater Arts, free, donation of $10 suggested

What happens when emotions come in conflict with principles, and how do choices under pressure define who we really are? The lobby of a Manhattan apartment building is much more than a waiting area for four New Yorkers involved in a murder investigation. It’s a testing ground for what happens when personal and professional personas find themselves at odds. A young security guard with big ambitions clashes with his stern boss, an intense rookie cop, and her unpredictable partner in a play from the 2017 Oscar-winning writer of Manchester by the Sea. Also playing May 20th.  Contact the Box Office for all three plays at 323.953.4000 ext. 2990 or boxoffice@lacitycollege.edu.

Please comply with the District policies for masking and vaccinations.
Masking

Effective June 12, 2022, Board Policy 2800 will be rescinded.  There will no longer be an indoor masking mandate at any of the colleges or at District facilities for employees, students or visitors. Masking already is not required outdoors and, as of June 12, we will follow the prevailing LACDPH health orders that indoor masking is recommended, but not required.  After June 12, students may wear a mask indoors if they want to and the colleges and the District will continue to provide free, disposable masks upon request and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the campus.

Vaccinations

Effective immediately, Board Policy 2900 has been rescinded for students.  All continuing and new students will not have to provide proof of vaccinations or have an approved exemption on file in order to enroll in classes or to access the colleges or District facilities. Weekly COVID testing for students with vaccination exemptions will no longer be required.

Registration Appointment Dates

Students can view registration appointment dates for the Summer and Fall 2022 term by logging on to MyCollege.laccd.edu and clicking on the “Manage Classes” tile followed by the “Enrollment Dates” tab on the left side. If no enrollment date is available, students may register for classes when open enrollment starts.

COVID-19 Testing

We will continue to offer COVID-19 testing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 4:00pm in the Student Union, first floor.
