News and Events for the week of May 23

Good Monday Morning,

Thanks to everyone who attended last week’s Classified Appreciation Week. We had something every day Monday through Friday. If you missed Friday’s Classified Coffee Break, then you missed getting your new LACC mug. They are available beginning tomorrow in the mail room. Thank you to the LACC Management Team for organizing every event and for participating every day – including the clean-up. We appreciate our classified staff and all that you do for us every day.

Last Week's Special Town Hall

Last Thursday at our Special Town Hall we learned first-hand what it is like on the ground in East Buffalo, New York. And we discussed the feelings around the killings that took place in both East Buffalo and Laguna Woods. In a grocery store and in a church – both places you should feel safe. We are organizing a drive for toiletries and other donations for East Buffalo. And so that we do not forget the suffering after the cameras are gone, we will continue to ask ourselves, “What are we doing for East Buffalo?” Thank you to Dr. Day and her amazing team for putting together the Special Town Hall so thoughtfully and so quickly.

In-Person Graduation

We are just two weeks away from our in-person graduation at the Greek Theater. We will be asking everyone to RSVP so that we know how many people will be there. We will have a very special guest speaker who I hope we can officially announce this week. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Please make sure you have it on your calendar – Tuesday, June 7 at 5:00 p.m. We are inviting graduates from our Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 so they want to get the full effect of a graduation ceremony if they choose to do so.

Registration Open for Summer and Fall

Registration for summer classes is in full swing. Both the summer and fall schedule of classes is in the student portal at There are still classes open for this summer session and registration for Fall 2022 is underway. Effective for Summer 2022 classes, students are no longer required to have a vaccination or exception in order to attend classes on campus.

Students can view their registration appointment dates for the Summer 2022 and Fall 2022 terms by logging on to and clicking on the “Manage Classes” tile followed by the “Enrollment Dates” tab on the left side. If no enrollment date is available, students may register for classes. Please remind your students.

New policies for masking and vaccinations for students:

Effective June 12, 2022, Board Policy 2800 will be rescinded. There will no longer be an indoor masking mandate at any of the colleges or at District facilities for employees, students or visitors. Masking already is not required outdoors and, as of June 12, we will follow the prevailing LACDPH health orders that indoor masking is recommended, but not required. After June 12, students may wear a mask indoors if they want to and the colleges and the District will continue to provide free, disposable masks upon request and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the campus.

Effective immediately, Board Policy 2900 has been rescinded for students. All continuing and new students will not have to provide proof of vaccinations or have an approved exemption on file in order to enroll in classes or to access the colleges or District facilities. Weekly COVID testing for students with vaccination exemptions will no longer be required.

COVID-19 Testing

We will continue to offer COVID-19 testing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 4:00pm in the Student Union, first floor.

All of the graduation excitement is in the air. A lot of activities and I am attending everything I can. I wish I could do them all!

BELIEVE. ACHIEVE. SUCCEED. Almost to finals week!

Have a wonderful week.
